I've used Crisco for years as a REAL bullet lube with zero problems.
I also use it on my C&B pistols to seal the cylinders...it CAN get a bit messy on a hot August day. I carry a good supply of rags.

I just got a lee REAL mold, and the pamphlet with it stated, try using Crisco for lube.
When using it, should I use it as I need it or can it be left for a wile on a bunch of boolits?

Get some 1/2" ID (if it is .50 cal)flexible tubing and insert your pre-lubed bullets into that. Push them out as needed with your short starter. No mess-no fuss.

What I've gone to doing is filling a bean dip can with Crisco and storing it in the freezer. It will keep indefinitely....(as in years). When I head out for the range, even on a hot August day, the Crisco is still hard and solid when I get to the range and remains that way most of the day. Room temp Crisco gets rather messy by day's end. When I return home, I refill the bean dip can and back in the freezer it goes. The main can of Crisco stays in the fridge for cooking, etc...this way, you're not getting cross-mixes. (Pyrodex doesn't mix well with fried chicken!) The wife appreciates my diligence as well...

Crisco is pretty much useless for any purpose but patch lube! The stuff is the equivalent of ingesting petroleum bearing grease for your digestive system!

Eh? :rotf: the stuff is pure vegetable fat, no hydrocarbons in the mix.

I don't know about that. My ma made some pretty fine pastries using crisco.
