I want to make up a cross draw holster for my Colt Navy but have never been able to take a good look at the backside of one to see how the belt look/strap is arranged.

Does anyone have some pics of the backside of a good cross draw that they could share?

Thanks

This is the back of my 60 Army slim jim crossdraw holster. It's CAS legal so the cant has to be less than 30 degrees. Only thing I see different from the strongside holster is the top of the belt loop is biased more to the front of the holster to provide the cant.

thanks

hmmm, I would have thought it took more than that to provide the cant. I'm not worried about any rules or PC/HC. I carry my shooting bag on the right side and want to be able to carry the pistol along also at some places I go mildly inconvenience birds at. I would hurt myself if I tried to shoot with my left hand. I figured that a CD holster would let me carry it and draw right handed but still be out of the way of the bag.

My first instinct would be to stitch a loop on the back like that but longer and with a little more cant.

Thanks Swampy.

That first one is pretty much exactly where I want to end up. Not sure why attaching the loop like that didn't occur to me before.

Thanks again

Here's another way. This rides high and snug, and won't flop or shift easily if the loop is sized close to the belt.

Not only is cross draw easier and faster, but it keeps the gun out of the way when you bend over.
Wick, is that a Super Blackhawk? I used to have one with a scope.

Not just a super BH Mike, but an OM 3 screw made in 1962. When I got it in the early ninties, it was unfired. It's a tack driver with hand loads.

I wish I still had mine. Sometimes when I'm going through the box that has all my old holsters and belts, I see the holster I made for it. Notched at the top for the scope. I loved that gun. Killed several deer with it.

Here are a couple with two different style of keepers, on the brown one it is part of the holster leather and on the black it's a seperate piece. The black one rides a little higher on the hip.
