the thing I like is the dramatic change in shade . the dark stripes almost disappear and other set of dark stripes appear.

I like the light shades of stain birddog6 has on a few of his guns and the colours in swampys fowler that Roy built.
I did a test piece a little darker but found that it covered up or rather took out the suttle curly that seems to bring the grain to life so I stopped at the shade it is now.

I'll post more pictures once she's altogether
 
Looks like a stock that I stained with home-brewed vinegar stain. What did you use? I think it looks great. Really makes the curl pop.
 
it's a couple of gel stains ,1st a light honey colour then a darker walnut colour and dozen coats of tung oil or so.
