I am looking to buy a custom kit with the lock, barrel and trigger fully inletted. I want a southern or Virginia style with primo wood.Looking to spend no more than I have too.Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!! Greg

Sounds like you want custom quality for a mass produced price.

Ain't gonna happen.

If you want quality, you are going to have to pay for it.

Chambers is top quality, but I don't know if Chambers sells what you are looking for.

Early Rustic might have something for you, though, IMHO, the dating of his guns is off by more than a few years.

Tip Curtis sells semi custom, in-the-white guns that you finish yourself.

The only thing you are going to do is the Ram rod tubes, and the butt plate ?

Might as well get something in the white from Tip Curtis.

Jack Garner could hook you up with a parts set for an Early Virgina for $479, fancy wood $140 extra = $639.

With a little luck you can get someone to assemble it for a reasonable price.

And you will soon be making smoke.

Got my Sheetz school Virginny stuff form Muzzleloader Supply.

There on the net. Id callem tho, their paper catalog is a lot better than trying to work thier on-line thing.

No one beats Jim Chambers for kits. You will spend a tad more, but you will get a lot more. He does have an early Virginia type. Chambers kits reduce pulled out hair, chewed up finger nails, flying tools, and general stress attacks. If you run into problems, they will help you through them.

I agree with J.D.
Either you are going to have to buy a mass produced rifle with all the work done or pay one of the craftsman to build what you want $$$.
Have you thought about doing some of the work yourself?
If so then the prevailing thought process is to go Chambers

Have Tip Curtis build you a VA rifle in the white and then get him to ship it to you with the barrel and hardware removed. With "Primo" wood it should run less than 1500.00

He may already have one done up.

Tip Curtis' number is 615-654-4445

I had Tip build me an Isaach Haines in the white and ship it to me assembled. I had to disassemble it and finish it up. It cost me les than $1000, and I got a swamped LH barrel, and one of the bes pieces of wood Tip had in the shop, according to him. It came with a beautiful stock. I imagine if you search on my name you'll find pictures.

Give him a call he is great to talk to!

I can definitely second the recommendation of Old Salt concerning the work of Brad Emig at Cabin Creek Muzzleloaders.

I recently purchased a fowler kit from Brad. Since I am left handed I will have to inlet the lock and sideplate, but the rest of the parts should be relatively simple to tie in.

The quality of this kit is top notch.
