Never been fired, and I'm wondering what a safe load would be in this gun. I've read some reports of other CVA products having soft barrels. Anyone else here have one, and if you do ~ what do you recommend for a decent loading....?

I think 20 grains of 3f black or Pyrodex P is a good starting place. I'd probably keep it below 40 grains.

Nothing wrong with soft steel in a barrel. The old iron barrels were a lot softer than any of the modern steels are.

The bad CVA barrels were those with serial numbers ending with -95 or -96. None were pistol barrels.

OK, thanks.....there are a few reports circulating around discussion boards of some of the CVA rifles seriously injuring folks and I wanted to be sure this pistol wasn't made during that era.

I'll start it off mild and build up to a medium load. Should be good enough....
