CVA made two different kinds of "Hawken" rifles over the years. The early ones in the 80's had a 1-inch (nominal) diameter barrel with a 1/66 twist. Later, probably in the early 90s they called them "St. Louis Hawken". These had a 15/16ths (nominal) diameter barrel with a 1/48 twist. I competed against both, and both CVA's outshot my T.C Hawken back in the day with round ball.

They were making the later version earlier than that. I have a St. Louis Hawken that I was given by my Dad Christmas 1987.

Take a cleaning rod with a semi tight fitting cleaning clothes and put it down the barrel. Mark it. Let it turn with the rifling when taken out. If it is more than half a turn it is 1 turn in 48, close to half a turn then it is 1/66 based on the barrel length. If it is 1/66 I am interested.

If it is a 1in 48 I may be interested. If your cleaning rod does half a revolution in 24" it's a 48.

I just checked it made exactly half a turn in 24"
