I have a CVA 50 cal percussion rifle with the original wooden ramrod. I'm looking for something more unbreakable, or a fiberglas replacement for for hunting and range sections. I ordered a delrin version from Track of the Wolf. But I'm not sure if I like the material. It is very flexible and not stiff. I wonder if anyone out there has any experience with these delrin rods or can make any other recommendations.

I have several different kinds including the Delrin and I don't care for it much either but I do use it and it does it's job. Just the limp feeling makes it uncomfortable to use. Don't use the original. They are prone to break and can go through your hand. I keep the originals just because they are wood and go with it but carry better rods as a range rod.

I'm not a fan of the fiberglass rods. My first rage rod was fiberglass and its the only rod that wore out my brass bore protector. I'm glad it wasn't used directly in the bore. No more fiberglass for me.

I like split Hickory for anything 40cal and up,I don't know where to buy them I make my own.

You can purchase a 48" hickory blank in 3/8" along with whatever style of tips you want and make your own. Just make sure to cross drill your tip ends and pin them.

I replaced the rr's in my rifles with solid brass rods. Guaranteed to never flex or break while loading. If interested you can try The Log Cabin Shop. They have them custom made for quite a few different models of repro rifles, or you can check out any number of online metal shops and order the correct diameter to fit your rifle's thimbles. It will come in a 48" length and you just simply cut it to length for your particular rifle. The Log Cabin Shop offerings are drilled and tapped on each end for cleaning accessories, and of course the metal shop blank rods are not.
