A friend has a CVA Hawken 50 cal for sale.
Gun is pretty old, but in good condition.
I seem to remember these being sold back in the early 80's or so, but not sure.
I'd be interested in, and appreciative of, folks opinions here on this gun.
Decent quality? American made?
THANKS!
I'm gunna butt in here since the thread was leaning towards the Mt rifle.
You stated HAWKEN.....
Good guns, a lot of us started out with those and the shoot just fine! I have one, as well as a MT rifle, both are CVA's and are 2 different guns.
The Hawkin being of spanish decent and the MR being partly USA made(barrel) or spanish. doesnt matter, good gun!
The hawkin will take game and hold its own on the firing line against guns far superior to it if the shooter does his part.
Personally, I'm not real fond of the sight package on these, but they are close to what TC puts on their barrels, so mute point there (I dont like the TC sites either)
I fell that the cva lock /main spring is kind of soft and see a lot of guns not always fire on the first trigger pull. once you know the habits of your gun, that issue can go away. A fresh nipple, seating your caps, no remnant cap material in the hammer cup ect.
If you like the gun you have found, Iwould think 200ish would be a fair deal IF thats what you want to do. Price we all pay is of nobody elses concern! although we all like to get a bargain!
The hawkin by cva is a good gun!
for the record, I started out with an older Mt rifle and it now resides in the safe. I shoot a tc stock with a GM barrel. it shoots great but I dont likethe stock fit. When I get disgruntled, I can always fall back on the MR.
I also have no issues with taking my son's cva hawken for a spin as he doesnt play with it much anymore!
