i have a cva kentucky rifle that i built about 25 yrs ago. the trigger pull should be measured in tonnage. how can i lighten the pull to a reasonable level. its a percussion .45 that is very accurate with a prb. the lock looks ok to me otherwise. help!

Going from a long ago memory, that lock has an engagement adjustment screw I think, but it has no fly. If you adjust it too light, it will catch in the halfcock slot. You should still be able to adjust it to get a decent trigger.

Hey:
I have a CVA mountain rifle of the same vintage. There's only a few moving parts in the line of ignition. Trigger, sear, tumbler, hammer, and the springs. Some screws too. The surface between the trigger and the sear arm should be smoothed slick. that will relieve some pressure. Hidden rust and too tight screws are the only things i can think of that will bind the lock. If you can take the lock apart, check for burrs on the bridle and lock plate in the area of the tumbler. The back surface of my bridle where it bears againt the tumbler was poorly machined and collected dirt and slowed things down. If not a good soaking of some solvent can drive rust and gunk out,(liquid wrench will loosen things up). :m2c:

i did smooth up the trigger "block" and polish the sear arm. i will disassemble the lock and polish the backsides of all parts. seems almost like something got tighter, you guys may bbe on to something.
