I would for sure hit the inside bore with a bore brush for that caliber.. REPEATEDLY.In response to your trigger issue: Some (not sure if all) CVAs had an adjustable screw on the lockset. This screw is used to adjust the trigger sensitivity. Take the screws off that hold the lock in place, it should be on the inside. You can adjust it ya want. If no adjuster screw, you might have some "gunk" built up and it may just need cleaned. I normally clean my locks once a year with a tooth brush and some brake clean..then after the brake clean dries, I coat it lightly with rem oil.

Yep, that is the early "four hole" cap box. Haven't heard back from R. E. Davis. Asked if they might have supplied the early CVA's, those being mostly made in USA.

Regarding the triggers, it does have the single adjustment screw. They were really sluggish so I pulled them and cleaned them with some Gun Scrubber, rinsed them out and then dried/lubed them. They set pretty well now but that full cock just isn't making a "click". I'm going to have to try to push on the hammer to see if the sear is holding OK. Guess having a silent lock would be good for hunting, though.

Also there is a little screw on the inside of the Lock that adjusts the sear at full cock. If it's screwed in too far the sear will barely engage. You might want to back it out (the screw)a little and see if it's any better!

Your picture of the 4 screw box looks like mine if it is german silver. My box also shows what looks like pins one in the cap hinge and one equal distance from the front 3 holes. Your picture with the six holes doesn't show a pin in the cap and the other pin is to far forward. The box on my Son's rifle is the same. They both have points and vivible pins.
Just saw Rogue Rivers picture and it is the correct patch box for the early CVA's Fox

Just a shout-out to nailgunner here who so generously supplied me with a brand new cap box! Is this a great forum or what? Now to begin the rustoration.

Where's a good source of wood screws that would look proper on this piece? I'll be needing some for that cap box and also to replace the Philips head atop the butt plate (or should that be "Bubba plate"?) Hardware store or TOTW, etc?
