Hey Mountainman, I gotta tell ya. I have always liked that rifle and I wish they still made 'em. If it were mine, I would keep it and stick another barrel on there. But,....it seems to shoot fine even with the bulge so I would just keep shootin' it. Another option....send it to me for Christmas this year. Those are nice rifles I don't care what Larry the Cable Guy says!!!

I'd ship it back. CVA rifles are not on my list of items I want to own. If you look around you can find a good TC rifle for around the same price or a little more. The TC rifle will be of much better quality and worth looking for. TC's customer service is also the best you can ever ask for. Today everyone seems to be looking for the new rifles of which we are not to speak of here. The gun shops are currently having problems selling traditional rifles, which means we can buy excellent traditional rifles cheap.

I don't think he CAN ship it back. Doubt even T/C would make good on a bulged barrel (operator error) plus CVA likely has no more barrels for it. Believe the last run of these was several years ago, at best, and they weren't (IMHO) up to the quality of the earlier ones.

Regarding used T/C's, the used prices for a good one, especially a Hawken, are getting up there. Especially with new ones going for well over $500. Shops all have the Blue Books and internet now. Deals do come along, but I scarcely see anything but cheap Knights and such in my area.

I agree with the thinking that if it doesn't go free when loading at that spot its just a bad shaping job at that spot.It won't hurt anything and you say it don't shoot bad, but its kinda like taking the prettist girl in school to the prom and notice she has a little wart on her nose, don't hurt anything but you always think of that wart........White Cloud :hmm:

I've just gotta chime in with everybody else. I'm a gunsmith by profession so it's hard for me to keep my mouth shut. If you don't feel an "easy to push" spot, then the barrel isn't bulged.

I would hang on to it and re-barrel it if needed these were the cream of th crop in production guns 35 yeasr ago, I wish I had kept mine, even with the cost of a barrel(keep you eyes open and a good used one may show up) the gun will be worth as much or more than you will have into it, good luck and always feed your ML's those tasty round balls, they are fortified with minerals and vitamins, and 500% of the daily lead requirement.
