I am disassembling a percussion lock on my sxs 12 gauge. Having difficulty removing the tumbler. Have pretty much applied all the hammering I care to. Just freaking stuck! Why would it be that tight? Need suggestions please.

I had one CVA shotgun that the hammer would not separate from the tumbler, I wanted to smooth and polish the tumbler hole. Soak in kroil, heat and cool, then try. But I would not mess with removing it unless you have to . I think the hammers were installed with a press.

I have had the same thing going on with my CVA lock. I found some play between the hammer and lock and used two screwdrivers to slowly remove the hammer, like a puller would. I also have a piece of 1/4 inch square stock for a punch. Some others have suggested cutting the blade off of a screwdriver to use as a punch, Now you will have to have a block with a hole deep enough to catch the tumbler. I have not had to use the punch and would only do so with the lock securely supported. Do not under estimate the value of the tight fit. My hammer and tumbler are very tight but separate easier now after repeated removals. I hope this helps, proceed with caution as metal can be removed easily, to put it back can be troublesome.

Thanks Dale, I have removed many a tumbler with simple brass punch. I am now letting it soak in some PB Blaster.
