I ordered some parts for it. The hand spring was bent and I just barely tried to bend it back and it snapped. I cleaned up the heavy rust.

Fordyce Beals 1858 Patent he died in 1870 in New Haven. Original guns have 1:16 gain rifling
AKA progressive rifling. Pedersoli makes a NMA with progressive rifling as does Pietta. When
Bill Ruger was developing the "Old Army" he studied the Remington Beals and adopted the
1:16 twist rate with deep rifling. While there are many replicas out there, unless they have the
barrel as was on the original, they are not as accurate. In Match shooting this has shown to be
the case.

Referring to the OP, the ASM, , I really like guns that look like they've seen action (because they had). Id pay more for that than I would for one that had false antiquing. Looking at it, id definitely say to leave the appearance alone and spend generously on parts to make it work as well as possible. Really nice gun!

I replaced the hand and the gun still didn’t work. I noticed the bolt wasn’t dropping at half cock. Took it all apart and noticed and was completely missing the hammer cam. I ordered a complete new hammer and put it in and luckily everything worked and it seems like it is timed perfectly.
