I was lucky enough a few weeks ago on one of the auction sites. I came across a new in the box CVA Stalker Carbine. This rifle was made in 1992. It had spent its life on some back shelf and I got it for a heck of a price.

The rifle has a 21" barrel with a 1-32 twist. The wood stock on the rifle was really nice looking wood I was more then pleased with it.

After getting the rifle, although it was a nice rifle the trigger pull was terrible. My scale said trigger broke at just over #12 pounds. So I contacted David Meredith, manager of CVA customer service. I explained my problem and was told to mail them everything but the rifle barrel and they would fix the trigger.

Well I got the rifle back the other day. The trigger job was excellent. It broke clean and crisp just over #4 pounds.

I took the rifle to the range and discovered it shot the 370 grain Maxi ball with 80 grains of Goex 2f. I was using CCI Magnum #11 caps.

The rifle tuned in real fast and in no time I had a nice starting group and with a few adjustments had it shooting right where I wanted.

I guess some of the old rifles are still out there and a good deal can be had if you're lucky.

Cayugad what range were you chucking the 370g bullets at? I can see no kry holing at all so if you were at 50yds or so it shows us the bullets work fine in fast twist rifles.

As far as your rifle goes looks like a well built hunting rifle that should perform well for at least 100 years or so as long as it is taken care of.

You got a good deal and a good shooter.

cayugad, nice looking stock design on that rifle and sighting groups too.
Did you feel much recoil when shooting those heavy conicals, or did the weight of the rifle and wood stock help to keep it tame?

I have the same question. What was recoil like with those loads?

I just purchased a Stalker in synthetic, otherwise looks to be the same configuration as yours. I am still waiting for it to arrive, but am hoping I have the same kind of luck you did.

This was done at 30 yards since because of the snow drifts (which are finally melting :) ) is the only one open.

The recoil with this rifle is next to nothing. There is a very nice rubber recoil pad on this rifle.

I figured 80 grains of Goex 2f and that big maxiball, there would be little that I could not hunt with that rifle.

I like the size of the rifle. At 39.5 inches long, it is smaller them most of the "tree rifles" out there. Also the ignition time with this rifle is very fast.

The one thing that surprised me when I bought the rifle is the stock is not held in place with a wedge pin. Instead after the button hook breech is in place, there is a large round locking lug that slides into a spot on the stock and then a lug bolt is fed up through the bottom of the wood stock where it locks every thing in place. This means that wedge pin is not hitting my forward support hand when I shoot.

I wanted to accomplish something today so I finally got around to building a portable target stand out of 3/4 CPVC pipe. Since I did not glue the joints, it comes apart and is fully portable. It also sits up high enough that I can see it over snow banks...

Of course with a new target you have to get a rifle out and shoot. One of the rifles I decided to shoot at the 50 yard line was the CVA Stalker Carbine with the 21" barrel and 1-32 twist. I was shooting 80 grains of Goex 2f a 1/16th fiber wad, and a 370 grain maxi ball.

The first shot on a clean barrel hit a little high using a full coverage 6 o'clock hold on the bull. Shots 2-4 grouped so nice that I decided to adjust my POI and sight picture and then on the fifth shot went for the bull. I used an open 6 o'clock hold for the final shot at 7 on the cirlce. I was more then pleased with the results.

Over, all this little Stalker has been a pleasure to shoot. The new trigger is excellent. It has excellent ignition time. And seems to really like the maxiball with the 1-32 twist. This would make a great hunting load...

I hate to say it but the new White may have some competition. That rifle is the real deal my friend great shooting.

Without a doubt, this rifle is a shooter. I have a Peep Sight around here that I might mount on the rifle since it came pre drilled for a scope or peep. I think with a good peep sight this little carbine could be a good 100 yard rifle with little problem. The maxiball load is more then enough for what I want to shoot.

Dont remember the places name but I posted it on here about 3 months ago if you want to look he had new ones for under 100 shipping and all. FRED :hatsoff: and they shoot just fine, I got mine for the stock and lock, trigger.

Nice target! Where you been? Haven't seen a post from you in a while. You going to leave the gun as it or put it on another stock?

Other then maybe putting on a peep sight, this rifle is not being changed at all. The wood stock is beautiful, and the trigger is perfect. This little rifle will shoot with the best of them.

It do that! and for under a 100 new I couldnt belive it, the stock is Great, the lock and trigger is also I was going to use them all in a underhammer but it shots to good for that. FRED :hatsoff:
