I have 2 1848 Dragoon revolvers, would like to get at least 2 extra cylinders [blackpowder not cartridge] for each revolver for fast reloads if necessary [the way things are goin its gonna be necessary]. I would appreciate any recommendations as to who makes them or where I can purchase them. Any information would be appreciated.

Your servant sir
Rafe

Thanks for the info GeoT, where you at in NE Texas. I lived in Gainesville, TX for while a few years ago.

Your srevant sir
Rafe

Depends who make the pistol, as many cylinders are not interchangeable: Uberti, Pietta, etc all differ enough to require re-fitting, and then maybe never quite right. I'd urge you to get a spare cylinder of the same maker as your pistol.

Cylinder swapping in any Colt design is never a rapid change operation, unlike the Remington design where one can swap cylinders without tools in a few seconds.

VTI seems to have, for most replica C&B pistols, spare cylinders: http://www.vtigunparts.com/

FWIW, a loaded and capped cylinder is like a Deringer in your pocket. Drop it and it can fire like a pistol.

PLEASE post a u-tube of your fast reloads when you get those extra dragoon cyclinders :rotf:

don't know if this helps, but i bought a spare cylinder form Classic Ballistix for my Ruger a while ago ... kind of pricey, but it works great, and i will probably get another in a bit, after i save up my soda can money...

I guess the words "fast reloads was a piss poor choice of words". I guess what I was trying to say faster then doing a reload not using an extra cylinder. I guess one day I will be a smart as you are, I just hope not.

Well Rafe, your post does have a touch of new guy dreams to it, this has been hashed over here at the forum many-many times.
While having an extra cylinder for ease of loading and a little bit longer range or compitition shooting session before reloading makes it easy and fun,
,,but,
The idea of needing 12-18 shots from a cap and ball revolver in an urban battle or home defense situation is quickly layed to rest with a modern type pistol,, let alone the other types of weapon said attacker may be using against you.

At $90 a pop for spare cylinders you very quickly approach the cost of something better suited.

If you need to use a Cap and Ball revolver for your scenerio, if you can't level the playing field in 6 shot's you might as well make yourself a ready target so your misery can end quickly.
No sence gettin bucky about it, :v

I have ordered cylinders from VTI before with great results until recently. I have been waiting on 2 2nd model Dragoon cylinders since november.....

In the first place sir I am not going to be in an urban enviroment, going to be in the mountains of East Tenn. In the second place if I need to defend myself from numerous individuals I will use my 50 Cal Barrett and my 10MM Glock. I was asking because you never know when you may be put in a different scenario from what you originally planned for or intended to be in..
As far as it being covered before maybe I should have used the search function, don't have to worry about anymore questions from me. I will read this site and learn all I can from post from other qualified people here, would imagine alot more qualified than I am.

I want to thank the people who posted information on the original question I ask, again thanks.

Fast reloading a Old Army or maybe a Remington could be quicker but I don't think I could reload a Colt very fast, I don't know how Clint did it.

I have never seen Clint reload a Colt but he did reload a remington in Pale Rider I believe......

I might see to getting 2 extra cylinders but that would be about it. But then again an extra gun does sound pretty good.

Black powder in .44 is particularly effective on those black helicopters... :haha:

I live on Cedar Creek lake between Corcianna and Athens. I shoot with a Dallas MLR clun near here! Geo. T.
