No time for big projects...really busy testing rocket and continuous detonation wave engines (CDWE).  However, I need to keep from going crazy (or any crazier) by doing something, so I made up this dagger to keep my hands occupied.  Not too sure what to do with it, but I like the look of it.  Right now it makes a dandy letter opener.  Now for the sheath.

Also...note to self... sharpen the blade LAST........this one was too sharp to work on, without a lot of band aids!

Davec2, You should change your handle to Midas, as it appears you have the golden touch!!! Very nice work!!!

sweet, n I thought haveing stock in Band-Aid was common practice with blade makers :blah: that way ya get payed back in interest every time ya reach for one :rotf:

Spectacular work! I have an idea for its use, you can send it to me to take vary good care of.

I took to using some cardboard around the blade and twine to tie up with...keeps the sharp edges hidden.

I must say that is a nice one! Somehow that seems like a poor description of how nice it really is!

So now where's the sheath! :shocked2:

:hmm: JUST SOMETHING TO KEEP YER HANDS BUSY HUH, what do ya turn out when your into it :rotf: :blah: :stir: FRAKEN AWESOME

I am late, But great work Dave what can you tell use about, what kinda steel is the blade. what kinda wood is the handle

JamesG,

The grip is carved ebony. I made the brass guard from plate and the ferrules from bar stock. The grip is finished with Tung oil.

The blade was made by some fellow in India and is 256 layers. I bought the blank on E-Bay.

(I tried to include the link but this forum won't let it through intact. Send me a note if you want the link.)

These blanks look like they are finished, but they are not.  The blank is shaped but is way too thick at the edges.  The blank I received needed considerable re- shaping, re-heat treating, and then re-etching to bring out the pattern.  But I am not set up to make a Damascus blade so, for $25 plus $10 to get it from India to me in the US, I thought it was a good deal. But don't expect the blade to be ready to go when you get it.
