Wife picked this up for me for are anniversary. It is a rifle / shotgun combo that Mic’s at 40 cal and 16 gauge. D Fish New York is marked on the rib and I can find know other markings. The 40 cal barrel seems odd shaped to me like the bullet would be an octagon. I could not find much info on Daniel fish and could not find many guns that he built. Any info on this gun would be greatly appreciated. I don’t want to start cleaning it up and find out this is a gun I shouldn’t have touched.

Interesting later percussion double. And your wife sounds like she may be a keeper. Might be some here wanting to know if she has any available sisters.

Daniel Fish was a New York City gunsmith known for high quality . Yours is a solid, but medium quality gun. Many of his guns are still around, including combination guns like yours. Your barrel arrangement is typical of many 2-shot combination firearms . According to Swinney, Fish probably apprenticed to Jeremiah Youmans and then went out on his own in 1826 and then apparently worked in various NYC locations until the mid 1870's
