Darkening brass

I've blackened brass using Birchwood Casey Aluminum black. At least on my gun it made the brass look like old iron.

It's harder to keep it new looking.
Let it age naturally and help it along with dirty patches when you are shooting.

The dirty patch works, tried it yesterday on shiny brass. Dulled it right down.

Wiping with dirty cleaning patches will produce the most authentic look short of allowing age and use to do the job.

Cold blue will make it a dark color. IF you can wait, wipe it down a dirty BP cleaning patch.

I have had good luck with wiping the brass down with patches loaded with wet black powder fouling.
