Well I ordered a kit to build for my daughter. I went with the Cabin Creek Ladies Rifle. Very nice people to deal with. I ordered Grade 3 maple in percussion (I know, but want to start her out with percussion and can always convert later if she seems interested in flint). Should be here in 2 to 3 weeks. But won't get a chance to do much with it until after deer season then the holidays.

Sounds like your daughter is going to have a nice rifle I have seen them up close very nice and handy. Brad is nice to deal with too! He has alot of knowledge and doesnt mind helping you out if you have a ? How old is you daughter?

Brad's a terrific guy to deal with and his guns are 1st rate. What lenght of pull is it? Caliber?

My daughter is 14. Her 15th birthday is April 14 so if everything works out well it will be her birthday present. In the mean time I have to buy her a bag and make a powder horn for her. My weekends over the winter will be busy. I got a 12 1/2" trigger pull for her. She is a small girl, maybe 95 lbs. but has long arms. I didn't get a chance to measure her but she has been shooting a T/C Cherokee which has a long trigger pull so this should work out okay. She is a pretty good shot. This summer I finally got her to shoot the ML off hand. First 2 shots at 25 yards she took out the x. Then she started to get tired holding the gun but was telling me when she shot where her shot went. Think she has potential. She came in one place behind me at 2 shoots this past summer. I am not the greatest shot offhand but can place at least in the top 50%. Went with .45 caliber.

I have been contemplating the Cabin Creek "Boys and Ladies" rifle for my 10 year old son. Fairly short trigger pull, 30 inch swamped barrel, nice Lancaster styled rifle and light. I probably should have built one for myself, as cutting two inches of my kit and having to fit the buttplate turned into a lot of work(ok I enjoyed every minute, but I can still claim it was work). One thing I didn't notice on the Cabin Creek page was the width(s) of the flats.
Please post your progress occasionally, maybe a picture. I would love to hear how it comes along!

Papoe, I have also looked for the barrel dimensions on this gun. Colrain hasn't got a web sight (at least I can't find one), I will have to wait until the gun comes. Since you can get this gun in .50 I would bet it is at least 15/16" at the breech but more than likely 1". This gun should handle well for her. I have had her shooting a T/C Cherokee which weighs able 4.25# so this gun with the swamped barrel, even though it weighs in at 5# should handle well for her. The first gun I built has a B weight swamped .50 barrel and it definitely is nice to carry. I will try to post the progress if I can ever figure out how to post pictures. Guns I do all right at, computers, well that's another story.

What is the status on that Cabin Creek youth rifle your building(built?)

I have to brown the barrel, finish sanding the stock then stain, etc. I have the long weekend over Easter to do this before her birhtday. Should be able to get it finished on time. Also have to finish her powder horn but I can work on that at night after work.

Well the gun is done and will be giving it to her soon. Hope she likes it. I will attempt to post pics here. I have never done this before so bear with me.

Rabbit, if your Daughter don't like that gun just you let me know, cause I'd give ya a dollar two ninety eight for it. Nice job, very nice rifle. Looks like it could shoot bull's eyes all day long just by itself.

Nice job Rabbit,it beautiful, your daughter is a mighty lucky girl... :applause:
