Great gift idea... this is my latest XL Davis Creek rainbow obsidian knife. The largest one I've made to date. Blade length just over 9" and overall length of 15"
First off the obsidian is completely natural, no secondary heating or manipulation of the stone to create the color in any way (for context sapphires, rubies and tanzanite, just to name a few, are heated by man to extract the colors we are used to seeing). In most normal light it looks like normal black obsidian. Holding it up to the sun, same result. When you introduce the light at an angle you see these incredible and vibrant colors, sun light is best but it's cloudy today so I used a flashlight. Pics do no justice! This was hand made by me start to finish from the knapping to hunting the shed antler and home made pine pitch.
$265 shipped to Usa.
If interested I also have a couple knife display stands made from deer antler and curly maple for an additional $25.
