Deep river rifle

Here is a North Carolina Deep river school rifle that I'm just finishing up. It has a FCI barrel that's 46" long and .45 caliber. The lock is a Chambers late Keyland with Davis set trigger plate and internals with my triggers. All other hardware I made.

Salty the box lid pivots on a wood screw and the spring latch is just like the usual wood lid spring. I do slim down the spring more on these pivot style lids.

Really late but beautiful rifle! How do you engrave the muzzle is it stamped or actually engraved?

Reds it is wriggle engraving.

My inlaws are from the Deep River area of NC. Did you study and original, or find good examples in a book?

That's amazing work. The wood to metal fit is excellent and from my amateur self the overall lines are very nice. Is the butt plate a two piece brazed one?

I have seen one or two originals but mostly studied photo's in Bill Ivy's book on NC rifles.
The butt plate is two piece and brazed.
