Well, the first of our three seasons wrapped up today. Had a great season, no I did not get my deer. First day, rainy, windy miserable hunting conditions, saw nothing. 2 nd day, beutiful day about 9:15 an 8 pt. buck drifts by about 45 yards out. He stopped and looked right at me as I was drawing a bead. Opra spit fire and brimstone just like she is supposed to. Unfortunately I did not do my part and rushed the shot and the buck lives. Rest of the season was a bust, I saw several deer, none with a clean shot, usually saw the white of their tails disappering.

Saturday did have a doe walk within 10 yards of me. I was sitting at the base of an Oak tree with the wind in my face. Heard something in the leaves over my right shoulder, peeked around and a doe was walking into the woods less than 10 yards away. I moved to get Opra into postion, and she stopped and looked directly at me. I froze and waited, after a few seconds she continued on. As she walked behind a tree I lefted Opra and aimed at the next opening in the brush. Long story short, she turned and strolled down the hill to the fence keeping the tree between us, showing only her tail, until she was out of sight.

Great season. ML season starte next Saturday.

Don't be discouraged. The later you fill your tag, the more you get to hunt. That's become my strategy too. We'll get 'em next time!

I took a small button on opening morning at 24 steps. He dropped in his tracks. I took a big doe later in the week at 13 steps. She dropped on the spot. I only saw one legal buck and I pushed him right past my dad. An 8 point that is a little more than eartip wide and would go about 175. I saw about 40 deer in 10 days. My freezer meat is done and I am hunting horns for the rest of season pretty much. On Sunday evening, I had a big old doe within 30 yards. I cocked the gun, set the trigger, and aimed while hunting on the ground. All I had to do was touch the trigger. You don't get the drop on one of the old smart long noses often!
My dad will be 71 next month. He had a good season. My niece took her first this season. I killed two deer, 2 rabbits, caught 2 big catfish, caught a bass that would go around six pounds, caught a big basket of crappie, and captured a lot of good memories. It has been a good season so far! I hope the rest of yours goes as well!

Same weather here in Rolla, Mowolf and I didn't connect either. I saw plenty of deer but they were on the wrong side of a lot of brush so I've made some adjustments in my stands for today.

The wife tagged a tender button buck Monday evening and I have an invitation to thin the does on a coupole friends places if I don't do any good on mine. I may take one of them up on it next weekend.
