Yeah, I know it is early and we are a long ways from fall ML deer season, but!!! :D :crackup:

When is the first time you guys can hunt with your blackpowder weapon?

Ky has an early ML season that comes in on Oct 15th, for the weekend. :front:

I saw quite-a-few deer during turkey season (way more deer than turkey LOL) and found 1 4pt shed. :p I can't wait.

A man after my own heart !! It's all I think about...basically it's:
Early October - January 1st in the Eastern section of NC;
Early November - January 1st in the Central section of NC;
Late Nov / Dec out in the Western section of NC

I have one little patch I can hunt in October, but my real hunting is in November...I take two weeks vacation every year and hunt the 2nd + 3rd weeks of November when the pre-rut and rut are going full swing

With a special area tag in Nebraska (the tax me state), we can hunt the firearm season, the December muzzleloader and the January late season (1st - 15th).

In Michigan, muzzleloaders can be used in the 16 day firearms season (Nov 15-30)and, of course, in the late muzzleloader season.

December 12th for a whole week! (There is a proposal to change it to nine days).

(NY does not love muzzleloaders - archers pay the same fee and get seven weeks+ of special season ::).

But I get to use m/l from the third Saturday in November(*) until then during the regular season. (* Maybe, Saturday start instead of Monday is still unofficial, I believe.)

Okay I did a little research and here's what I found. In the state of South Carolina in game zones 3,6,and 11 deer season opens on private lands August 14 and closes January 1. You can use bows, muzzleloaders, or modern stuff. I don't know about you, but I don't think I would enjoy the skeeters, chiggers, ticks, heat, or the humidity of mid August and September.

First South Carolina deer I took was back in '68, the year I got married...it was a scorching August 15th day, standing on a fire break down south of Sumter, and the dogs ran a Doe out of the woods practically on top of me....she stopped when she hit the open firebreak 20 yards away, shot her in the head with a load of .12ga 00 buck...heat and humidity were both well up into the high 90's...one of the dogs died of heat stroke that day...never hunted in that kind of heat & humidity again

I think New Jersey takes the prize for the tax me state. In order to generate more tax revenue, our former governor levied a tax on tires and cell phone service in addition to state tax. I digress. This kinda explains our hunting license cost. For a firearm license, it is $27.50. This gives you the ability to hunt small game for a good number of days and it gives you 2 buck only tags for a 6 day season. Monday to Saturday sometime in November. That kinda sucks. For another 28 dollars you can hunt from 20 -40 days (mostly weekdays and not consecutive weeks at a time) with a muzzleloader (1 doe 1 buck tag) depending on the zone. Needless to say, you can do a lot of hunting if you spend a lot of money.

With regards to turkey, you can buy a permit for $21 for five days (m-f or 5 consecutive saturdays)per zone not to mention that hunting hours are from sunrise to noon. Again, a lot of money gets you a lot of hunting. It sucks to be a hunter in NJ! :m2c:

It will start for me Oct. 29th. and go through Jan. 9th. If my luck is like it was spring gobbler season..I'm not going to spend another hunting season in the tropics.

DEER GO OUT OF SEASON IN SOUTH CAROLINA!!! Uh Ohhh

<G>

Seems never ending here, but then they are everywhere.

Actually, I need a hunting break to rest up for a while. Might even get to go fishing.

Muzzleloader season starts right after modern season ends. The last weekend of modern season is the weekend after Thanksgiving and then that Monday is the start of muzzleloader season. Talk is they are extending muzzleloader season to nine days. We will see when the regulations come out.

We were trying to get an early season in October but the bow hunters did not think too much of that idea. So instead they have a T-zone hunt which is used to take doe out of the areas with a heavy deer population.

That early season is great if you can get it passed. I love to bowhunt too, so it doesn't bother me in the least. We have a special 2 day early season around the middle of Oct, then the regular gun season(you can use a ML), then the late week long ML season in Dec.

It sure is fun... Here is a pic of a little button buck I stumbled up on last weekend.

here in montana we have a wilderness hunt that starts september 15 this is for elk and deer you can use any firearm. most hunters go for the elk as it is right in the middle of the rut the only thing is you have to pack in about ten miles for good hunting then if you do get a elk it would be nice to have a horse or mule to get that 500 pounds of meat out.

Stumpy needs to get alittle farther north in NY. I'm not too far from the Adirondack park and we get a week before and a week after the modern rifle season.

Well, I'm going bear hunting in Oregon with my flintlock the third week in August. The season actually starts 1 Aug. It's not specifically a muzzleloader season but you can use one.

Where you going to hunt bears here in Oregon? I just moved over to the west side north of Roseburg in Sutherlin last July and haven't found many places to hunt yet. Where you located?

Here in MO ours starts November 12 and goes until December 15. You can hunt with a rifle also but why? :thumbsup:

In PA, early ML season starts Oct 15th to the 22nd. Flintlocks, caplocks, and inlines mostly, over-lapping with archery. Late season starts Dec 26th with flintlocks and bows. Taxylvania has WMU's with diferent season lengths. For instance, in SE PA, roughly between Allentown and Phila, the season is almost 2 months. The trick there is to find a place to hunt. :results:

Of course I'm referring to ML deer seasons. You can use a ML for most anything you want to hunt here where shotguns and/or rifles are legal. Sorry for any confusion.
