Hello from Germany!

Yesterday I got my Deerhunter rifle from Ardesa/Traditions in .45 perc. Has a beachwood stock and a 1 in 66" PRb twist. I find it a bit bad that it has only brass front sight and iron rearsight. Tomorrow I'll test it.

Think it will be my roedeer rifle, because it is so handy.

Can't wait to get a range report after you take it out..A pic or two would be nice so we could take a look at it. :wink:

You will likely do fine with the sights unless your eyes have developed a "patina" you have a nice traditional rig as it is I hope it all works out well for you. Keep us posted on any game that falls before you,and enjoy the journey :thumbsup:

I changed the sight meanwhile into a fiber sight which gives a better sight view especially in the dawn. Our game (roedeer) is in most cases only active when it gets dawn or even in the night. In Germany you are allowed to hunt from 1 hour before sunrise during the day until 1 hour after dawn.

I have a terrible time with shiny front sights. Very difficult in bright sun. Probably my eyes! :(

A 1:66 twist?? Did not know they made that in the deerhunter. How long is the barrel?

I have a 50 cal flintlock version of the same rifle. Far as I can tell it aint a great looker but she works just fine. Mines a 1-48 twist.

That looks exactly like my deerhunter in .50 except for the sights. Mine is 1:48. Shoots a rb pretty well too.

Here's a partial pic of mine;

You are right ! But I think the basic model of the deerhunter is always the same. For the european ,arket they make it only with .45 barrel and iron/brass sight, because here ML hunting is not so common, but in the USA they offer more hunting modells. So my idea was buying one in .45, becuae they are always available and mount a fiber sight and a leather strap. With .452 maxis it is good deermedicine even at bigger game like roedeer. For roedeer a .440 PRB is enough. :grin:
