Deerslayer trigger

Adding R.E. Davis deerslayer trigger to my T/C Renegade. Enlarged mortise for screw of set spring. Cannot get trigger to set off hammer. Anyone else have same problem and what is solution.? Trigger is a great improvement over stock.

Which trigger doesn't set off the hammer?

If it is the front one, check to see if the blade on the top of the trigger is hitting some wood before it reaches the sear arm on the lock.

If it is a little too long, it will sometimes hit the stocks wood at the rear (towards the butt).

Likewise, if the blade on the rear trigger is a bit too long, its forward end will hang up on the stock wood.

A good way to determine if this is happening is to use some inletting black or go buy yourself a tube of lipstick. Get something your significant other wouldn't be caught dead wearing.

Rub a thin coating of lipstick or black on the top and sides of both trigger blades and reinstall the trigger assembly.
Then operate both triggers.

Remove the trigger assembly and look for lipstick (or black) on the wood.
If you see any, carefully cut the wood away and repeat this testing.
If you would rather, you can file away the metal on the blade(s) to clear the wood but if you do you won't be able to return the trigger assembly if it proves to be defective.

Don't remove more wood than is needed.
Stocks are pretty weak in that area and they need all the wood they can have to reduce the chance of breaking.

Yup, we need to know which trigger isn't working.

You can look in there too,
Pull the barrel,,
Then pull the lock,,

You can now Look at the hole the trigger sear arm fit's into in the stock, when you work the trigger you'll see where the trigger cams are moving too.

Just off the top of my head, if it's the rear cam that's not working and it's not getting hung up on anything than it might be the rear leaf spring need tightening,,

It is front trigger. Will check and see if it hit any wood in am. It acts like it doesn't engage the lock. I will keep you posted.

I think I worded this wrong, because it's always the front trigger that is used,, set or un-set.

It's which trigger "cam" isn't working.

When the rear is unset, it's the front cam that pushes the sear arm,
when the rear is set, it's the rear cam that strikes the sear arm,,

Checked wood. Trigger not hitting any wood. Has good clearance. Can get hammer to drop if I pull front trigger way back. Will not drop hammer if I set rear trigger and then pull front trigger. Tried it with both deerslayer triggers(ordered 2, 2 is one,one is none). Factory T/C trigger works. Guess I will get in touch with R.E Davis and see what's up. So much for 5 minute install.

The screw at the rear that preloads the spring that kicks the sear may be too loose. Take out the trigger assembly and tighten the screw that increases the power so the kicker can trip the T.C's sear.

Was a little loose. Tightened all the way and same result.

It's not in the mortice deep enough.
Somewhere front or back, wood needs to come out of the mortice to allow the trigger cams to ride higher.

That's what I was trying to explain about removing the lock and looking in the lock mortice AT the hole for the locks sear arm,,
It's the round circle in back of the lock mortice,,.

Put the TC trigger in and look at how it moves,, the DeerSlayer should move the same,,

That's the 5 minute instruction, remove wood,,
