Pards,
My understanding is the greatest difference in weight between repro's and original Springfield's is the weight of the barrel. Is there somewhere I can buy a correct barrel? I bought the weapon supposedly already defarbed from John Zimmerman of Harpers Ferry, WV. I mainly use it reenacting, but I still plan to live fire it as well. :v

Sure, but it won't fit your reproduction stock...

You could buy an original barrel in shootable condition with good rifling, cost would be between $350 and $500. Or you can have a new one made to original specs (outside diameter). Maybe have the work done by Whitacre?

If he won't make a new one to original measurements he can reline an original that has been smoothbored. But remember, an original barrel will not be a drop in replacement for your repop stock. You could go back to Zimmerman and discuss the possibilities with him, he can take care of what you want and give you a realistic estimate of work to be done and cost:

Dan Whitacre is a supurb barrelmaker. You'll note, just FYI, this line appears on his Web site:

"Springfield barrels fit original stocks."

Yeah, I've lusted after a Whitacre barrel for a decade. Now one of the great rifle-builders in the N-SSA is putting together for me a '55 rifle (brass fittings, long-range sight) crafted around one of Dan's original-spec barrels. I'm anticipating picking it up at Spring Nationals. I'll tell ya, the wait is making this a really long, cold winter!
