I assume (usually a mistake) that material intended to be converted into clothing would probably be preshrink at the mill
Making Johnnies pants would be a disaster if after getting the size just right that they would stink markedly on their fist washing.
I was surprised that the pocket drill, Skychief washed shank so much.
I always used denim for shooting patches and never thought about shrinkage.
In the local fabric shops the selection of denims was the widest selection, giving me more different fabrics to find the one that compressed exactly the amont I wanted.
If you are selecting fabrics for more than one rifle it'd wise to find a different color for each rifle lest you go nuts trying to keep them straight..
I was blessed with two rifles with different barrels from two widely different manufacturers used the exact same denim.

When I found it I bought enough to supply ALL my shooting requirements and enough left over to upholster an aging recliner.
