Thats a really nice bess you got there mr potato head, the place you got it isnt far from where i live.think im going to have to save a few quid and treat myself one day!but first things first i gotta build a powder box and get the police to hurry up with my bp ticket!

he,s a well helpful man at derbyshire arms.ive just had my interview and got my black powder approved only took 1 week with leics police .theyre very good .as a certain trainer firm says just DO IT.atb

damn yankee,s ,confederates ,rebels blimey sounds like we best call out the militia and round up the wagons :patriot:

When I joined the reenactment unit, "The Major's Coy, 42nd RHR, The Black Watch" - I often joked that I could use my Brown Bess, wear MANLY clothing (I.E. a Kilt or Philabeag) and STILL shoot at Yankee's. WHAT A GREAT DEAL!! :haha:

no,india pattern.the man at derbyshire arms makes them.has the barrels bored out at a certain "workshop"that makes things for the green.assembles them and has them proofed in birmingham.i was lucky he had a batch for the 200th celebrations for Waterloo as he states on his website you can wait upto a year for a special.it was impressive to see 300 besses, blunderbusses and related stuff in 1 big room.

It is indeed made in India by a company named Hassandand Hemandas. Derbyshire arms will go over the musket, time the locks If needed and redo the finnish on the stock. Lastly they drill the touch hole and send them for proofing at the Birmingham proof house.
They DO however make their own muskets as well but mostly replicas of old Brittish doglocks and matchlocks.
I own one of these myself and even tho its a good shooter i was pretty disappointed that the caliber was .69 instead of the usual 75for the India pattern, mostly since i had cast around 200 .732 round balls before i got the musket.

Worth nothing for you who, like me planning on getting or have got an india made musket. The first musket i ordered actually blew up during proofing. As Derbyshire takes full responsibility this involved no extra cost for me, but a considerable delay. But with this in mind; DO NOT ever live fire one of these without proffesional proofing!

thanks for the heads up,,he told me they had them bored out locally in chesterfield.no mention of india .but as already stated i knew it was a .69 cal so made balls to suit.just waiting for the black powder licence ,approved 2 weeks ago but due to the famous british cutbacks not here yet.it is proofed by brum proof house so hopefully no surprises .il post when fired ,as ive already made 245 balls out of free roof lead.just chomping at the bit to try it

As long as it makes the proofing allright i does not really matter If its made in India or on the moon. Derbyshires muskets are fine shooters, sure the finnish is not that of a pedersoli but neither is the cost. I am sure you will have lots of fun with it, I sure have with mine.

sure looking forward to it.got 7kg of size 6 shot for pigeons n squizzers/bunnys ,and another 5kg to melt down into musket balls for the range.im doing the paper cartridge routine and the ball in a lubed patch to see best results.bet your well peeved about having to recast all them balls ,glad he warned me he was .69 cal not .75

If you don't own a pair of precision dial calipers, might be a good idea to have Derbyshire Arms accurately measure and record the bore diameter for you. Then, if you wish to shoot a well fitting round ball and Derbyshire does not stock that size, you could get a mold from Jeff Tanner.

thanks for that ,as stated gary measured the bore at .69 cal.the mould im using is slightly undersized.the balls roll down happily and fit snugg with a patch.the man doing the mould is a toolmaker and has all the guages etc so i should have a good result from this .all advice greatly received as a novice to this.any of you gents that make your own moulds /minnieballs have any other pointers /suggestions thanks in advance iain

yes pocus told me ,he had a bad un first but as they no quibble replaced it he says he enjoys firing his current one.as a pedersoli ones out of my price range and the man who sold it me,s in spain il put some balls through and see what happens.if theres any problems it can go back but as i posted what he,d told me im not pleased .if he said indian made from the start fair do,s but he said india pattern and told me about them being bored at chesterfield from steel he selects.it is nicely finished and my only issue at the moment is waiting for my black powder licence.okd 3 weeks ago still not released due to lack of staff at the local police HQ. :dead: moulded loads of balls ready, paper cartridges made ,beeswax/oil lube ,patch material ,powder horn just no licence yet :cursing:

Just to clarif, I Never actually had the bad one as they do not deliver live firers before propper proofing.

sorry Pocus with you saying it blew up i thought you had received one that went pop.the proofing process does look impressive ,theres a prog on birmingham proof house on sky and they line about 50 barrels in a row ,double powder them and fire together electrically.its a WOW moment you see how soldiers couldnt see :haha: when firing a company volley atb
