Determining Flint Size?

What are the guidelines for determining which size flint to purchase?

Anything wider than your frizzen is wasted. Anything narrower isn't getting as many sparks as it could. At 1/2 cock it should be 1/16" to 1/8" away from the face of the frizzen.

That is good information Stump Killer-thanks. I was going to post the same question for a TVM I have coming. But now I guess I am going to have to wait until it gets here. Tom.

If you know the lock maker and model, the size flint it takes is generally known.

If you have a Late Ketland lock the flint will be about a 1/4" from the frizzen at half cock. Most others I have seen are 1/16 or so.
