For what it's worth, I use the same TC pillow ticking patch that I buy for the .45cal...and it's 1+1/8" diameter;

Or if you meant cleaning patches, 1+3/4" cotton seems to work best for me.
 
I've shot 1 1/8 and also built a cutter for 7/8th, both work well although the 7/8 takes a little patience to line up more exacting.

I came up with 7/8 by muzzle cutting some material and measuring.

my GM likes either one fine.
 
Best way I know is to load the rifle using a strip of patching material, cut at the muzzle. Fire the rifle & retrieve & measure the patch. Then either order that size of precut patches, or buy an Arch Punch of the correct diameter.
