Is there different size caps? Cuz the caps im using dont fit right over the nipple, theres a gap between da nipple and the cap. is it posed to be like dis? :: :: :: :shocking: :blah:  :(

Do you mean they are loose fitting? Yes there are different size caps.

Yep. There's a #10 and a #11 cap (plus a MUCH larger musket cap). There are also under/overside nipples that sneak past quality control (if the plant has this) and nipples peened wide from long use or dry-firing so that the caps no longer fit.

boy this sounds to be to much trouble with a cap gun....glad i started with a flinter......................bob

Yeah.......like there isn't different size FLINTS!!!

 :blah:

MM: Most cap and ball pistols use a #10 size cap.
Most rifles use a #11 size cap.

If your using #11s on a rifle and the cap is loose you can try to find some (hard to find) #10s or just pinch the cup with your fingers to make it out of round.
That usually holds the caps on the undersize? nipples.

The caps don't have to fit real tight because they don't seal the nipple. In fact, as you've noticed they get blown all to H when the gun goes off. That's what is supposed to happen so don't worry about that.

If you squeeze the caps, be sure to keep them away from your face. I have never had one go off just from squeezing, but it could happen.

There's someone at our ML clayshoot who uses Joyce 26 caps. Seems he has a load of them to use up so he pinches them down to fit a #11 gun. He gave me a few and they would fit a 0.177" nipple ::

Muzz-dude, what size and brand of cap ARE you using??

With my Uberti 1851 Navy #10's are to small, #11 are to large, RWS 1075 just fit but talk about prices...

#10's fit perfectly on my Uberti 1858 Remington.

Isn't that weird?

Anyone knows a source for nipples with defined cone-sizes?

You might want to just change out your nipple to an after market product that fits all standard #11 caps.

All my guns have been converted to the "Uncle Mikes" Hot Shot percession nipples. I've never had a problem getting any brand of #11's to fit. They are cross drilled to help assure ignition.

When I got my Pietta Remington, Cabela's told me to buy #10 caps. They fell off. Go figure. #11s fit snugly & work fine.
