Tom, I believe you should have held your position as the buyer.
The seller should have told the jumper he had second choice.
And the jumper should have asked for second choice to begin with.
I also know of no auctions, do not like what that leads to.
I wish you would not have said if you want it that bad go ahead.
Sorry, and hope you can deal with more honest and upright deals next time.

Let's all remember to use common courtesy,,
Lol,, welcome to 2023, someones rudeness is on them and of no bother to me.
The "courtesy" in this case is on Seabee, the offering seller.
There is no "bidding war" going on @wiscoaster ,, it's simple, there are men that have honor, and those that don't.
There is/was "wanted", then an offer to sell,, there is/was no "bidding" involved.
The offer of sale for the obsolete gun was low, and @tom in nc should consider that with regard too shipping if the deal is closed.
But "rudeness", "courtesy" and "honor" are marks of an individual,, and nobody else controls that.
@tom in nc should have considered that, before bringing this issue of honor to the open forum.
Honestly, if I was shamed in this manner, the last thing I would do is close the deal.

So what you’re saying is that when we see you bid on something we should all take turns bumping up the bid on you, correct? .......Guess it’s just how you want buying and selling to work.
IF it's public information, you're free to do that, and yes, it is how buying and selling works, whether we like it or not. A deal is not done until there's an agreement between buyer and seller. The way I read the OP is that someone stepped on the OP's public wanted post before a deal had been made. There was an offer made, but an offer is not a deal. If I misinterpreted the OP's description of events, then perhaps it was because the OP didn't make it clear that the offer had been accepted and a deal had been agreed upon with the seller, and the wanted ad should have been marked closed. IF that's the actual sequence of events, then, yes, of course an unfair transaction occurred. When it's public for everyone to see, there may be multiple offers to buy until the item is sold. The seller is free to take the highest offer; he's not obligated to take the first offer. He is obligated to honor his agreement made with an accepted offer from an accepted buyer.

None of the posts in this thread have made clear whether or not there was already an accepted offer agreed upon by the buyer and the first seller when the second buyer stepped on him.

I recently placed a WANTED ad for a .31 or .36 revolver. Someone responded and offered to sell me one on here, instead of send a PM. That would, I suppose, normally be ok but another new user responded, on here, offering to buy it. Let's all remember to use common courtesy on here, please.
I guess this confusion is my fault. I replied to Tom’s post because I am not real familiar with doing the pm thing. I do apologize for this. I am new to this forum and just learning how it works. I made the notice on Tom’s post instead of a pm that I should have used. As for the fellow that jumped in he is new also or just hasn’t posted much on here. So Tom that being said. Actually you are the first. So if you would like the gun. It’s yours. No bidding war. Please forgive me and I will try to do better in the future.

I have looked at the "Firearms For Sale/ Trade/ Wanted" section and have not found your rules of buying and selling posted. You are the new spokesperson right?

No, I'm not, and there's no need to post rules about buying and selling protocols that are commonly accepted and understood by most of the rest of the population.

In the two years I have been a member of this forum I have NOT witnessed the type action or behavior that you are prescribing for buying/selling. The members of this forum have always impressed me with their kindness in helpful information, their skills in building, and just their general character. I would have a hard time accepting that the people I have come to know here would desire to conduct business in any less fashion. Maybe because the love of older living styles brings forth the time when your word was even more value than a handshake.
Luckily this misunderstanding was done by new members and will learn from it. We are a old fashion group.

The OP post seemed pretty clear to me. He had a wanted post out for X. He had another member come to him and say he has X and will sell for Y. A third member who obviously has no couth, manners or has never pulled that crap in real life came in and stepped on the toes of the OP offering to buy X. This is unacceptable! Both the seller and the third party buyer who is not the OP is at fault. Since we are talking about guns, try this crap in a gun store and see what happens! Offer to buy the guns the gun is store attempting to purchase while in front of the owner of the store see how it goes…..not good I bet! If you must have what is being sold to the original two parties mark an offer to buy after the OP has purchased what he posted in the wanted ad! Offer to buy it from the OP, not step on the deal! My uncle did this the other day as a matter of fact he was in his local gun store and over heard a sale between someone and the owner of the sale. The deal was too good to be true! Did he go over and offer to buy what is being sold!?!? NO he waited for the deal to be made and then bought said items from the store! Store, OP it makes no difference! DONT STEP ON SOMEONE ELSES DEAL.

When selling, I always use the rule first reply in gets the merch unless they fail to follow up in messages or funds. I expect the same as a buyer and won't deal with someone again if they don't play the game the same way.

My other hobby is Treasure Hunting (Gold Prospecting and Metal Detecting mostly). I’m a Dealer for three Detector companies. This happens mostly on Facebook, but someone will say that they’re looking for something, I’ll mention that I have one, and then someone else chimes in and says how much?

These people are selfish and self-centered. They have no couth, no morals, no respect for the person who asked for the item. They only care about themselves. It’s so sad that Common Courtesy and Human Decency have taken a back seat to greed! It’s the same as when someone posts a topic and somebody else hijacks it.

This is not an Auction Site so there should be no “Bidding War”.

Don't beat yourself up over it, you're learning and willing to make it right. Well done.

It's funny because I didn't realize there were so many PERFECT people in the world!

Pride that a person has is within himself, honor that a person has is of his conviction to self, and both matter only to the individual.
I think they call it self esteem.
Those things matter to how the individual lives their life.
Some live their lives with those values, some others don't.
The presentation of an individuals values to others,, are seen.
There is no "perfect".
Example is found in this thread, a man of Honor, expressed his flaw, his simple error,, but kept his word.
Get it:?

Sad thing is we ain't heard from @tom in nc that he's closed the deal!

You quote me but, obviously didn't get what I said! Such is the way of the typed word. I don't need you to educate me with your fancy way of putting things. You obviously think highly of yourself so, carry on! Whatever, I'm done here. 👍
