A simple board with straight angled pegs looks nice.Is it PC? no! but then are guns ever PC any more? The question is is it safe? Only you know who will be in your den, and remember it takes more than putting in a bullet to fire a muzzle loader.

I don't have room in my safe for all my guns anymore, so I have elected to keep some of my MLs "displayed" in my reloading room/"man cave" rather than keeping any suppository-loading guns out of the safe. For the most part, they are just leaning in a corner with deer racks, buffalo memorabilia, misc. pouches and powder horns displayed nearby or with the guns. Most of the idjits who would break in and steal them wouldn't know what they are or know how to load them, even if the powder and ball were right next to them. So, I am not terribly concerned from the safety aspect. Some very good, tasteful ideas on display techniques have been suggested here - might give some of them a try . . .

Happy Birthday Otter!

I have two of mine on forged iron hooks in the livin groom.

THE ADMIRAL said I could and it took me about 17 seconds to taker her up on it.

Porkchop, for many years I was a small boat sailor and there was an outfit that cast bronze oarlocks in various types (there are many) I THINK the name was Newfound Metals, not sure. If you Google around small boats or rowing boats you may turn them up. Also there are a number of online sites for marine surplus, sort of like a junk car thing but for boat nuts. Good luck, good smoke, Ron in FL

Porkchop...i have a set of oar locks out in the shed, as soon as the fellow from the VA gets here and fixes my elevator, i'll see if i can lay hand to 'em. i'll let you know when i find them and what they are made of, i'd be interested in how you use oar locks for display, ...Lee...told y'all the VA takes good care of me, even hooked me up with an electric wheel chair, having a tough time makin it look like a horse for rondevous tho

Thanks Shooter! Let me know what you find! I have found oarlocks locally, but they are usually galvanized and look like a crappy chain link fence gate hasp. I have a plan that I think will look good...

Check Ebay. Seen plenty of them over the years in the nautical collectables section and other nautical themed listings.
Also, stores in San Francisco and Monteray sell them. Youd have to google those.

I find lots of the galvanized ones on eBay. For a while, I saw a few bronze ones, but they went for much more money than I wanted to pay.

Dear Porkchop, it is with great sadness and heavy heart i must inform you the great galvanized oarlock conspiracy has struck here as well. i was pretty sure i had others, then my wife reminded me all our stuff washed out to sea during hurricane Katrina, i did find the galvanized ones though. if you want a pair of true survivors you may have these galvanized oarlocks, they survived katrina and didn't even get a dang T-shirt...Lee

No sweat shooter. I will play taps nice and slow in honor of them. I am not in a rush, a bronze or brass set will pop up when I least expect it! The galvanized just don't seem to be appropriate to me. In all honesty, I want old tarnished ones...

Pork chop, I used lots of them over the years for rowing, customarily the oars had a leather sleeve to protect the oars, very often the casting on the rowlock left a fine casting line that would need to be filed/sanded/polished, whatever. It would be real easy to make an "L" shaped rack of appropriate size and just drill holes the size of the oarlock shanks, bolt rack to wall, drop in locks with a felt piece glued inside the lock, and place the rifle. Good smoke, Ron

Although they are a little small for a rifle, the Coat Hooks sold at Ace Hardware work well for hanging pistols.

They don't cost a lot either.

I just built this display cabinet for myself as a Christmas Present to me.
It contains the guns I have made over the years with the exception of the first one I built in 1963 which I sold to a friend (he will not sell it back). The pouches and horns etc. are all my doing PC or not.
The cabinet is made of pine and cypress. The horns on the corners are a horn I made and scratched, aged and cut in half. The lock in the center is made of cherry & african black wood and it functions. The flint is black wood also.
I am currently working on a club butt in 16 Ga. and hope to complete it this winter.

I hope the photo works I have never done this before.

I used to keep mine above the fireplace mantle on brass hooks. My shot pouch and powder horn on another peg around the corner. (We used the fireplace so I wanted the horn out of sparking distance). Now it's on the same hooks in our rec room. Someday I hope to have another house with a fireplace. It did start a lot of conversations even folks who weren't into guns liked it.

Here is my display cabinet. Sorry for not getting the photo earlier I had a problem with the bucket. See my earlier post above for the details.
