I am thinking of buying a used Dixie/pedersoli Kentucky Flintlock rifle in 45 cal. flintlock. Gun shop north of me has one listed for $500. Is this a fair price for a used pedersoli?

Cabelas has their Pedersoli Blue Ridge Flinter on sale now for 629.00. Most on the forum will tell you it is a better balanced shooter than the KY. I have owned both, and personally prefer the Blue Ridge.

I bought the rifle at Cabela's for $450 (brand new) on, a maybe not repeated, sale! But, I think their 'new' price is in the $500 - $550 range, so I am going to say your gun shop deal is not real good.
I will say, this is a very nice gun and it is well worth $500 bucks. Mine will equal a highly touted, on this board anyway, custom rifle. Yeah, fit and finish isn't as good but performance is and that is where it counts. Right?
You can't compare this to the Blue Ridge, they are not similar at all. Kinda like comparing a TC Seneca to a TC Hawken. :hmm:

If you want it and you like it ................get it!

I bought a Ped KY rifle kit in 50cal from Dixie a few weeks ago for 575. I haven't finished it, but so far I really like it.

My Blue Ridge is a nice gun except for the trigger pull. The set trigger works fine. When not set the trigger pull is about 10 lbs. I don't know how to fix this.

Fixing that problem is not easily done because it is "the nature of the beast".

The pivot pin for the front trigger is, out of necessity, placed further forward in relation to the locks sear than a simple triggers pivot pin.

Smoothing up the top of the front triggers blade or bar and polishing the underside of the locks sear arm will improve the pull slightly but don't get your hopes up too high.

Ok. If your heart is set on the Kentucky, Cabelas has those on sale for 549.00. No patchbox on their model, but still built by Pedersoli. also, I wasn't really trying to compare the Ky and the Blue Ridge. I was simply stating my opinion based on having owned both. I own 5 custom guns, and the Blue Ridge will hold its' own with any of them. I am also a Pedersoli Dealer (not trying to sell one...I couldn't match those prices anyway) Pedersoli guns do have strong springs, but the double set triggers on the BR work well. Just my 2 cents worth.

Like most things Italian, they're higher priced, and when they break, they're really expensive. They are very proud of their parts, and price them accordingly. Looks like an Italian made flintlock.

I bought my 98% pedersoli kuntucky in .45 and another .50 kentucky at different times for $350 each off the forums. Both shoot well.

The .50 is much more nose heavy and less "handy" than the .45.

$500 used is no great deal.
