Anyone have one or handled one? I have really big hands and my 1851 Navy is pretty small. I have held an 1860 Colt by Pietta and it is comfortable. I've heard the "regular" 1858 Rems have small grips and can hammer the knuckle like my Ruger Redhawk did until I changed grips.

I've never seen one but they do have some reviews on their site that might be of a little help.

The reproduction Remington grips are all over the place regarding their size and distance from the guard. I have 5 and I have average size hands, here is my take on the regular models. Euroarms: slightly small grip but no issues with trigger guard. Uberti: smallest, still no issues, 90's vintage. Pietta: 85 vintage, definite problem. Pietta, early 90's, larger than previous, no issues. Pietta: '13 vintage, about the same as the 90's version, no issues. Subtle differences in the curvature of the front and/or back strap and the thickness of the grips can make quite a difference in how the gun feels. Though it's been many years since I handled an original Remington I don't believe any of the reproductions are identical and the frame and grip size varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and even varies in different runs by the same manufacturer. Untill someone can document all of the actual dimensions of an original for us to compare to I refuse to believe any claims as to a reproduction being "full sized". A slightly oversize version sure would be sweet though.

Pietta makes a 58 Remington with larger grip. In Dixie catalog.
RH0140 PIETTA larger frame and grips.

Yep, I saw that and it says it has a larger grip and frame. I went back and found the reviews and it looks like that is the one for me. I'm going to call Dixie and ask if the frame is really bigger or just the grip.

FYI - Dixie has lots of things listed on their online catalog that aren't in stock and haven't been so in years.
IIRC, try pulling the item into a shopping cart to see if it actually exists.

I am very interested in this subject myself. I also have large hands but a hankerin for a remmy new model army that will leave skin on my second knuckle.

I have owned and sold a few regular new model army's not because i do not like remmy's ... but i get weary of having my second finger recieving such messaging till it leaks.

Kepp us posted on your findings please

Dixie has them in stock, but it would be nice to put one in your hand to tell if it feels good. Maybe someone close to Union City, Tenn can go to Dixie and check it out

Ordered this today from Dixie and I'm hoping I'll like it. I've never held a Remington so I won't be able to compare this to a standard model but I like the design and reviews and know about all the pros and cons from weeks of research.

I was going to wait for a Cabela's sale on an 1860 Army and I'll keep waiting but think they are far and few between. Fathers Day maybe?

Cabela's used to run a sale of cap & ball revolvers right after Christmas, it looks like that's a thing of the past. Do we thank Bass Pro for that? Over the years I got some great deals then and used up my Cabela's bucks.

Let's have a report when you get your Remington.

Anyone know if an Uberti Colt Walker cylinder will work in an ASM Colt Walker?
