I was up there today for the 1st time, and all I can say is WOW! :applause: I wasn`t expecting it to be that big. There was also alot of vendors. And alot of people. The guns were awsome too. Some of them guys are gifted with talent and skill that goes into those guns, powder horns, bags, and many other stuff. :hatsoff: I wish I had alot of $$$$.I sure could`ve spent it in a heart beat.

I was there on Friday and it seemed like it was a few vendors short from previous years. TVM was either not attending or was just really late, usually they are setup by the afternoon. Were they there today? Also there is usually a vendor from WV that sells defarbed C&B pistols didn't see them either.

TVM, for whatever reason, was not there. I truly hope that they are alright (no heath problems or such). I missed talking to them
Vern

TVM was did not attend Fort Frederick this year either. Maybe they have enough business without the road trips.
I'm off to Dixon's tomorrow to pick up a rifle I ordered 18 months ago.....just a little bit excited!

just got home from Dixon's a little while ago, I had a lot of fun and appreciate getting the chance to talk to some fellow members face to face for once!

It was a pleasure to talk with everyone there today! Nice to put some faces with the names. Blew my budget on a Leonard Day Dutch fowler, and picked up a couple of books to drool over, as well as a horn that'll make a very nice map horn if I don't screw it up.

Here's a picture of me with my Bucks County rifle, and yes, I was crazy enough to wear the outfit all day.

Sorry that I couldn't last until 12:30, but did have the pleasure of meeting and talking with gus and the AncientOne when I arrived. I would agree that the number of vendors, AND the number of visitors was down a bit this year, and wouldn't be surprised if the condition of our economy had some impact.

I, too, was disappointed that Matt and Toni weren't participating this year. I wanted to personally thank them for the fine service and fine kit I received a few months ago which will be a .50 cal. late Lancaster Co. rifle for my grandson.

Col, fine looking outfit, and a beautiful Bucks Co. rifle.

I also had a great time at Dixon's yesterday, and was grateful to put faces to some of the names that I become familiar with (a fine group of gentleman). My only complaint is that it was too dang Hot. When I got home, had to re-hydrate (Miller time). The Old Woman found me over re-hydrated and had to help me to bed.
Paul, hope you have/had a safe trip home.

I was there sat. and it was hot. we left there and hit cabelas and it even seemed hot inside there. I was amazed that I saw people at cabelas buying things for flints and such when 15 miles away is a better selection and better prices ?? I was able to come home with $4

mfwing, I did the same. Wishing for some air conditioning (the car's doesn't work all that well), I, too, headed west on I78 to Cabela's, and didn't find all that much relief. Cabela's had a "Clearance Rack" of inlines which was receiving a great deal of attention with prices I found pretty steep for such homely weapons!

I kept my hands in my pockets, headed upstairs for a bowl of Whitey's Beef Chili (my favorite), and then headed down Rt. 61 for home. I enjoy stopping at Cabela's, but at this point in life, I seldom carry any packages out the front door. :v

I had to work but I stopped by Dixon's on my way (actually, way out of my way) for about an hour Sat. morning to look around (and drool). I thought that might be you, Kevin... :haha: ...I should have said "hey".

It was good to see Birdman and that he's recovering well from his physical ailments. Maybe we'll be seeing more posts from him here again soon.

I haven't gotten to that point yet, Patriot... :surrender: ... I'm still stocking up for that stage! :haha: I can feel it coming on, though!

Vern: It was a true pleasure to meet you, and Gus, and Kevin, and later meet Audie and his wife. A few others said hello, but I didn't get their names. It was so very hot and humid on Saturday, that the meeting of all these people who have only been "names" on this forum was a great treat.

I got home okay, early Sunday morning, as there simply was nothing on Sunday's program that I needed to see, and stay over.

My main mission was to hear Keith Casteel's seminar on Tuning Flintlocks, and Keith did a marvelous presentation. That was going on at the same time as the informal gathering was taking place "Up on the hill" for members here. Since my hips, knees, and feet were screaming at me to SIT down, there was no thought given to climbing the Hill. I am sure I missed meeting some of the people from this forum, and I am sorry for that. But, timing is everything, and even I can be in two places at the same time.

My brother, Peter, and I stopped at Cabela's after we left the Fair on Saturday afternoon, as we had never been in the store. What a zoo. We did do a lot of looking, but I don't have pants with pockets that high to pay some of the prices they are asking! I didn't see any "deals" there. We did enjoy touring the museum to look at all the deer and rack mounts, along with some of the other stuffed animals displayed there.

Pete went back to the Fair Sunday morning, I learned, to buy a couple of more things he saw inside Dixon's before he headed home. He's still on the road back to Tallahassee, today.

I have to give credit to Kevin Moultrie for encouraging members here, who attended the Saturday sessions, to meet each other. The older you get, the more you understand That personal wealth is not measured by the amount of money in your pockets, but by the number of people you can call "friend". Thank you, Kevin. I managed NOT to drool all over that fine gun of yours! :haha: :rotf: :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

Hello Paul! Indeed, it was so hot and oppressive by Sayurday around noontime that only two other MLF members showed up on the hill to meet and greet (about the same as last year, too). I too felt that several past vendors weren't there this year, and many tables were manned by two or three vendors, who would have had their own tables in the past. For the second year in a row, a couple of 'must do' seminars were canceled, when the schedule presenters were unable to make the Fair (bummer!). All in all, though, it was another great Dixon's, strictly one-of-a-kind! Hats off the the HCH Horners for their wonderful show presence. Also had an opportunity Sunday morning to be within hearshot of the Accoutrements final judging for special Best of Show judging; very interesting observations, indeed! Disappointed that the ribbons weren't posted prior to my leaving at noon on Sunday. Can't wait till 2011!!

Sorry I missed you, Mike. That hill was just too steep for me to climb Saturday.

Pete Hutton was one of the Horners with a prominent display. He specializes in making screw top horns, and he sold a bunch of them, if the empty spaces on Sunday are any indication. His wife, Pamela, does Inkle Weaving, and was busy there, as well. Absolutely gorgeous woven belts, straps, slings, etc. They hail from Sullivan, Illinois, and gave a wonderful presentation about their work to my Gun Club back in June. Pete had some turned neck, Ball bags on his table that he made up, as well as some fire-starting kits, in leather bags, with steel, flint, and tow to get you started. The talent and artistry they have and demonstrate is just a wonder to me. No wonder that they have been invited to teach and demonstrate at Colonial Williamsburg(Va.) in the past.

Paul,

Sorry that I missed you and the other MLF members....had to photograph a wedding in that heat on Saturday! But Andy & I did make it to the Fair on Sunday morning for about 2.75 hours, before it started to rain. Maybe next year!

Glad to hear that you made it over this way. Hope to meet you soon! The first Lemonade is on ME!

Dave

Dave,

I wish I had known you were going to be there Sunday morning. I would have liked to say hello. Of course our paths probably crossed at some point.

I was there with my wife, 2 teenagers and our beagle.

I missed it for the first time in several years. Unemployed again & too broke to buy anything, so I just didn't have much interest this year. :(

Was a good time, was only there until about noon. Picked up a barrel and a bottle of Chambers stock finish. :hatsoff: Not a good year for extra $ to spend :shake:
