I bought a small 7-inch hammer-polled tomahawk head, and I made a handle and sheath. All that's left is to find a woven strap to sew on the the tabs for a shoulder sling.
I fashioned the handle from curly Maple with a draw knife and rasp. The handle shape is based on a few historical examples. Light Ferric nitrate stain and finished with Tried & True wood wax. The handle was set with a Hickory wedge.
The sheath is based on Sir Alexander MacKenzie's sheath (1790s). I couldn't make the neck of the sheath tight like MacKenzie's because I have that big pommel on the end on my handle. Mine is not a pipe hawk with a skinny straight handle. I didn't include the flap cover that you see on MacKenzie's sheath, because I didn't recognize what it was until I had completed this project.
