Do I need this part replaced?

I just received my GPR percussion kit from Lyman this week. Last night I started dry fitting some of the parts to see how things fit and if there were any problems. I noticed that the breech/tang part had some extra milling done on one side by mistake. The barrel still meets up with the edges on the breech, but you can see a little wave in the milling. I was wondering if this part should be replaced by Lyman. I included a pic to show my problem. I am not sure if this part should be replaced or if it is fine as is.

This is my first Lyman build. I am planning to post my questions and pics as my progress continues. Thanks for your input.

I don't think there's a safety issue, but I sure don't like the looks. Lyman will be quick and friendly in replacing it, based on my experience.

I appreciate the quick response BrownBear. Here is another shot from the defected side. I think I will call for a replacement. Does Lyman typically need the part in hand before they send a replacement?

An emailed pic might do it, but in my experience they've often mailed the replacement part to me before they could possibly have received the defective part I mailed. Turn around is always quick.

Replace it. It will cause problems later in the build when you try to contour the wood.

Called Lyman. The customer service gal is requesting a proof of purchase, the serial number of the gun, the part in question, and a letter stating the defect. Ugh. Oh well I have time to work on other parts.

Their demand for documentation is based on being sure the part wasn't buggered by an earlier purchaser, and by a need to trace the kit back through quality contol to try to prevent further occurences.

I have put together two Lyman kits, And the resulting arms have been very satisfactory. Take your time, enjoy the assembly and finishing as much as the finished arm.

My came that way. I just filed it down. I plugged the tang sight hole anyway so I had to file it down. I got rid of the hump in the tang also.
