does someone make a flash guard for the pan for say a t/c or really any flintlock ? i was thinking if its the flash that was bothering me on an righthanded rifle and im lefthanded would that work? maybe.......

The flashguard doesn't make much noticable difference to the shooter. It is to protect those off on your vent side.

You can make one for any gun that has an exposed head frizzen screw by cutting a 1" section of copper pipe, splitting it down one side and then using metal shears or a Dremel tool to cut it into a "d" shape. The leg of the "d" has to squeezed flat in a vise and must be large enough to allow for a hole to be drilled for the frizzen screw.

Or, you can pay Ted Cash $2 for one of these (the plain one)

Unfortunately, T/C has a frizzen screw that has the head behind the lockplate as I recall. You're only chance is to find a longer screw. I'd start with T/C

to flinters, and having never used one of those flashguards i have a question about them. Wouldn't the guard make the flash fly directly up in front of your face instead of out to the side causing more of a distraction to the shooter? Just appears that is the only way the flash can go if not out.

It doesn't fly up into your face, but, to me, it does make it more noticable. I guess a really wide brimmed hat might trap a bit of smoke in your eyes. The flint itself blocks anything from coming back on you. (I wear glasses all the time anyway, so I don't notice minor schrapnel). A properly 'aimed' flashguard has enough of an angle that it directs it up and away instead of back at the vent. I never use them unless the range requires it. They complicate cleaning and wiping the pan between shots and they look 'clunky'. (especially my home-made horrors).

that i always wear shooting glasses too after the other night. I was using the new .62 smoothbore on starlings flying over. On the second shot the front edge of the flint shattered and came raining down into my face. Wouldn't have been no fun a'tll to have gotten a bunch of flint flakes in the eyes. Cleaned the edge up and it worked fine the next shot, but on the 4th shot it did the same thing again. I quit after that for the night. Got a new flint in her now.

In the picture the top three are for flinters and the bottom one is for percussion......I find the percussion one pictured works on the Enfield/Zouave weapons.......It's purpose is for us sissys who don't want out stock burnt or powder/cap fouling all over the lock plate or barrel......Makes clean up a heck of a lot easier.....I wish I could find one for the Mississippi, I've been smearing bore butter on the wood and that keeps it in check.....of course you have to keep re-applying it about every 10 shots........john.......

What you need is stock butter, not bore butter... :haha:

I would almost be willing to bet you could buy a percussion flash cup and alter it to fit your Mississippi rifle with a little file work...

At the most, you'll be out a few bucks for the cup...

Anyone have an extra percussion flash cup they would be willing to send to Myra lou so as he can fit it to his Mississippi?

If you look over the ones offered at Track, they list the hole size. There is also room for enlarging the hole somewhat for a slightly larger-yet, nipple.
: During the month of May, orders from Track over $100.00 are shipped free.

Thanks for the tip.....It's not the hole size (a reamer will fix that)....It is the fence on the Mississippi that is different.......can't seem to find the correct cone taper.......still going to look at TOW....thanks......john.....
