I call mine the "Fusil" becasue it is a "Fusil" :idunno:

My .36 Tennessee flinter is named Shadowmaker in honor of an early member of this forum, Two Shadows, who introduced me to the builder, Roger Sells. My .54 Tennessee flinter that Roger built I named Zilpha after my great, great, great, great, great grandmother, Zilpha Jernigan.

Kind of like naming the livestock -- when it comes time to thin the herd, it's a lot harder. :haha:

Actually, I hadn't thought about naming my rifle -- maybe "Sweet Caroline"...

Only when it lets me down!

I considered naming my rifle after a girlfriend who has a has a good old rural VA name but it is just as well that I didn't as I have since married.

Looking back to my first statement, maybe that would have been a good name for the rifle.

I have never been one to name a gun but have finally given in under all the pressure from the forum. I named my .40 flint Late Lancaster "Little (okay "Lil') Red".

Two reasons for the name. First the rifle is, well, red; so far? Second is the fact that one of my all time favorite boxers was Danny "Little Red" Lopez. It stops here, I'm pretty sure.

My .40 is called "Red" because the cousin of the guy who built it asked me when I went to pick it up if I was the guy getting that Red gripe(had a bright red stain that has since darkened thank goodness).

.50 Lancaster is "Emma". The maker kept telling me it was going to be ready and wouldn't be. So I named it "Emma" for when emma I going to get it!

The .54 Issac Hines I put together last year I called it "Otis" after the town drunk on Andy Griffith cause it looked like a drunk had worked on it. :rotf: I like it though. Might give it a last name as well since all I shot was a dogwood last year. How about "Otis Homelite" :haha:

In Alabama the gun must be .40 or smaller for small game and .40 or larger for deer. My .40 Seneca has "Oakmulgee Do-All" neatly engraved on the barrel because I hunt the Oakmulgee Management Area.

I'm sure glad this post came up, I have several weapons with names and now I don't feel so odd.
My .54 Pedersoli Kodiak double is named "Elise" for my daughter-in-law. Sleek, pretty and gets the job done.
My .72 Pedersoli Kodiak Express was named "Bertha" by my eldest son. Kinda self explanatory.
Now my M-14 is named "Eleanor". Named her for a friend at work who is a class act.
My most accurate M91/30 is named "Dasha" for this really hot Russian girl I know.

I have three named guns. 1. The Target rifle , 2. The Deer rifle, and 3. The Tingly. Reaons for naming them is self explanatory.

WOW!, Trent, that must have been something to see,
maybe it was a Bull Elk.

It totally threw me off guard. It was my first deer ever, not to mention with a flintlock. He was with two does when I let loose the shot. Smoke was hanging in the cold air, the does were running circles around him and he was just bugling with his head back in the air. I'm pretty sure an "Oh my God" came out of my mouth watching all of it.

I must confess, I still have one named rifle. It is a short hunting rifle .62 caliber the ugliest thing you have ever seen. I loaded a tight patched
.610 ball and 120 grains of 3F ( honest bear load )
I killed my first deer with it. I made a center rib cage shot at 100 yards. The deer did not run off, it was blown sideways and never got up. I named it " Thump " because it did on both ends.

LOL, This reminds me of the names of the three cats at the barn. There`s Black Kitty, Grey Kitty, and Multi Colored Kitty.

My .54 lancaster (with the new flint lock) is named "Streak" for the mineral streaks in the wood. The .32 Schroyer (also with a new flintlock) is named "Daisy Irene", after my grandma, the sweetest lady I ever knew because the rifle shoots so nice.
And my wife just found the receipt for my lancaster kit from Pecatonica River dated 10/8/03.
$677.30
:shocked2: :(

:hmm: Maybe you better give that one an Indian name - like "Dag-gum-mit" or "Oohhh-Sheet" :haha:

What is it and how did you end up naming it that?

"Black Thunder" It's a .54 cal Hawken that I built from Tracks blue prints about 15 years ago. "Black" for the powder that he burns and "Thunder" for the noise boys! :hatsoff:
