Greetings,

I'm a military guy who grew up doing some flintlock hunting in PA but have been away from it all for about a decade. I'm settled in to a longer set of orders and am trying to get back into the woods.

I've been to every sporting goods store in east central MS and have had zero luck finding any real black powder. I'm specifically looking for GOEX but at this point I'll settle for anything that isn't Pyrodex or Triple Se7en.

Anyone here in the east central MS / west central AL area have any advice?

I see there are a few places online to buy, but it seems ungodly expensive and a minimum order of 5 lbs is probably more than I need right now.

Please help!

look at Civil War re enactment camps......or maybe find someone local to split a small lot with from Grafs.....

if I were in West Bama and not East, i'd offer to split a small lot w/you myself.

I cant speak for nowhere but N.W. Alabama but around here there is none that I know of. Even Bass Pro has quit selling or so i have been told. I wouldnt buy there anyway at 24 bucks a pound. Do like me an get it delivered to the front door. Link below

So is the consensus these days that online is the way to go?

Side note then; anyone in central MS want to go in on some powder?

Also Powder Inc. in northern Arkansas. They do mostly shipped orders, but I was able to pick some up directly when I was in the area a few years ago after a phone call to them.

I stopped in to Graf’s brick and mortar near Mexico, Missouri a year or better ago, to pick up a load of powder on my way through the state. It’s starting to dwindle, and when I’m all out I’ll probably have to make a bulk 25 lbs. order from the powder sellers on the internet as real black is about like hen’s teeth in Las Vegas.

I can vouch for Powder Inc. I have purchased from them for several years. They are good people. They also carry caps and other items. Look on the web site and give them a call.

Alexandria, LA is pretty close to MS if'n you venture that way. Jack's Powder Keg is just east of there. Dropped by there a few years ago. The judge was an amiable enough fellow and a pleasure to do business with.

Generally good information here. I've had good service from both Powder Inc. and Graffs.

A local gunshop owner in New Hampshire told me that his insurance will only allow him to store 50 lbs of black powder on his site (which is probably typical). This means that he can only purchase it in 25 lb lots, and still have 3 different 'grades' much less brands. So, you can see why a store would give up on it. As he delicately put it,"I think I lose money on every can of this I sell. But, I love black powder, and I want people to be able to try the real thing."
