I was wondering if anyone ever made or sells a two barrel muzzleloader that is not a shotgun. Kind of a second chance deal?

Anyone ever heard of such a beast? Also is 50 cal the largest caliber available in muzzleloading.

Thanks in advance.

CVA used to sell an express rifle. Two rifled barrels in a double barrel stock.

There are MANY sizes larger than the 50! How big do you wanna go??

Pedersoli makes the Kodiak. It is an express type rifle with dual rear sights. From what i hear from those that have them, they are a nice gun, although a bit spendy. Last i checked it was available in .50, .54, .58. and .72 cal.

Track of the Wolf currently has a beautiful .50 cal swivel breech for sale. Price is $3000, but it's worth just going to their site to see it.

I had kind of hoped to hear of someone making a 58 caliber (like the Minie Ball) with two barrels (over and under would be better).

Didn't know if the 50 cal modern limit applied to the muzzleloader world.

I would just love to send 500 grain 58 lead bullets (of my own design) downrange...

2 barrels would be great. Any links to pictures of the CVA Express you mention???

Thanks!

The Kodiak double muzzleloaders are magnificent looking firearms. Unfortunately, in NJ the Fish and Game Dept., allows only single barreled muzzleloaders firing a single projectile per shot. Any other states with a similar restriction?

I believe it was Hopkins & Allen Mfg (Hawthorne, NJ) back in the 1970's and early '80's that marketed a swivel breech o/u percussion rifle. Numrich Arms later took over and sold the remaining stock.
I've seen them on gunbroker.com and auctionarms.com, albeit very infrequently.

If'n you fellers hadn't gotten me hooked on flinters, I'd not had to sell my Pedersoli Kodiak .58 s x s to pay for a custom gun  :blah: That Kodiak is a nice double rifle!

I have had a Kodiak ,58 cal. for many years.
It has taken several moose, with ease.
The rifles is a tad heavy, but then again it is a double barrel.
I have seen the CVA, no comparison, not in the same league.
The fit and finish on the Pedersolli is very good.
Mine shot better with round ball, than minie.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards

Mr. Ford,
Were the barrels truly regulated for a given distance/powder charge/projectile or is there a seperate sight for each barrel? Appreciate your help.
Best Wishes

I have a review from 1978
Apart from the sights that came with the gun (which he had changed), the author was impressed by the gun.

His best result was 2 1/2 inch four shot group (2 from each barrel) at 100 yards using the lee 578-478M minie and 100 grains of Pyrodex.

with roundballs and lighter minies the groups from each barrel were 3-6 inches apart at 50 yards
