FWIW, I had mine made by the original owner John at October Country...beautiful little pocket priming horns, and I had him add 3grn plunger dispenser tips...fits in a hunting shirt pocket.

Why would anyone use a priming horn? Like short starters they are things best thrown away while hunting in an area you will never hunt again.

How about because percussion caps don't work well with flintlocks? :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

i dont see why you would need a priming horn.all it does is slow the loading procces and more weight and things hanging off you.and i dont have a possibles bag lol.i did but i sold it lol i dont se the point to them anymore.that was when i wanted to be a mtn man :rotf: and it was all robert redfords fault

I think the point here is the man wants some priming horns. Not if he should get one or not. Thanks to the folks with the helpful and positive information for Dixie.

Dixie, if you don't find any priming horns, I can make ya a couple. But you'll have to wait until I complete some horns that four other folks are waiting for. Send me a PM if your interested or post your email.

Keep that flinter smokin!

The positive thing about my post is that you get rid of worthless junk which means you're more authentic and have a lighter load to carry. Priming powder isn't necessary. Fill your big horn with 3F and forget the priming horn.

:hmm: I may have missed something here. What is keeping him from making his own from almost anything, made mine from two pieces of wood ,hollowed and bonded and covered with leather. now they hang there, I prime from my 3f horn..

You are correct. There are other threads where one may argue the virtues or period correctness of specfic equipment.

Sometimes it's hard to see the question through our opinions. :winking:

Are they flat? Or just very small? (in order to fit in the pocket)

No, not flat...imagine cutting off a 4"-5" length of a horn tip, and making a mini powder horn out of it...I also have a couple made out of deer antler...I'll take a couple pics and post them.

I've seen the 3f vs 2f on the forum before and thanks for your comment. However, some folks like to utilize other features, implements or so called gadgets with their muzzleloading activities. I don't have a need for a priming horn, but some folks like them. Thanks again for your useful comment which allows another avenue one can consider. Sometimes, one person's junk is another person's treasure.

I'm off the thread here (lots of laughs). Nonetheless, Dixie has all forum options to consider.

Drop that hammer and let'er smoke!

Pocket Priming Horn holds 200-300grns 4F;
Pocket Priming Antler holds about 125grns;
Each has 3grn plunger dispenser tip;
Either drop into a shirt pocket, tether to a button hole to keep from losing them.
