Double Barrel and Patch and Ball

Got a CVA Double Barrel,like it just fine.They show in the Book how to load Patch and Ball.Thinking of trying it on Deer.

I have two Rifles that work just fine.But I'm thinking of getting some Balls.

Will it be worth my time messing with it?

I have a Navy Arms double barrel .12 ga. It has cylinder bore barrels. I use .690 rd. balls in it. I use an overpowder wad with a fiber cushion wad glued to it, so there is just the one wad. Lube the cushion wad in melted Crisco, after the glue is dry. Then the patched rd ball. My gun will shoot 4 shots (2 from each barrel) that is one big hole at 25 yds. Haven't had a chance to try it any further yet. But to answer your question, yes, it is worth experimenting with. You may be pleasantly surprised. You may want to check your state laws and see if it is legal to carry a double barrel with both barrels loaded during their ML'er season. You can't here, but you can use it during the general rifle season.

Ofcourse its fun like last season,drop one Deer reload while having one look right at you,and drop it.Gets the adrenalin going.

Must be nice to take more than one deer a season. Only way we can get more than one is if we luck out and get drawn for a controlled hunt.

I hear you! More than welcome to come down.We have 4 month season,a month of that I can use my Smokepole.We're allowed 1 buck with Bow,1 Buck with Firearm,unlimited Skinheads.

Last season I killed 6.Get pretty good dressing Deer at that rate

I was through Missouri last May when i helped my dad move from Phoenix,Az to Mich. You have some real nice country back there. Saw a lot of wild turkeys. Course, we got lots of them around here. :: Thanks for the invite.

I have a Pedersoli with 14 inch barrels. I load one barrel with a patched .690 ball and the other with #1 buck. It makes a great gun for hunting feral hogs.

I tried some buckshot loads. Couldn't get a decent pattern much past 12-15 yds.

Try a plastic wad. Not traditional but it will help your pattern. :m2c:

I do use a plastic wad. But i ain't worried about it. i don't hunt with buckshot anyway. Just wanted to see how it would work.
