Hello,

I just bought an Indian replica without venthole. It is the same you can get from Loyalist and similar traders.

The bridle was so thin at the location of the top screw (on both locks) that it broke but a replacement part is in production.

Here some photos :

IT STRIKE ME ODD that the barrels on these are stamped with what looks like a date mm/dd/yr
....ANd they are usually from the 70's ???
whats up with that?

JDR probably stands for Jaidapur, a place in India reknowned for arms manufacturors

"79" is found too frequently to be the year of manufacturing

a usuful link :

Two manufacturers - both from Udaipur Rajasthan,
1) M/S Abdul Hakim Usta(D)
2) MK Sikligar

They all seem to be stamped with that date.

The stamp AHU on the barrel indicates that it is probably from : "Abdul Hakim Usta" manufacturer from Udaipur Rajasthan

Udaipur is noted in Kipling's "Jungle book" as the birth place of Bagheera (wikipedia source);

What better place for a Howdah type pistol to be manufactured ??

Howdy!

How did you get that look on the locks and barrels?

Thanks!

James

hello,

I blued the steel with Permablue Birchcasey (only once or twice)
Others modifications are :

- all springs were much too thick/strong and I grinded them to smoothen the action
- a front bead sight was added
- Some beding around the trigger block was necessary because it moved

A lot of adjustment was necessary but the result is unique : it is the only option I know for a double barrel flintlock pistol !

Shooting at 8 meters

Left barrel impacts are noted with a triangular and right barrel impact with a carre

A lot of work to make the pistol shoot..........

Curious House in Jaipur is a major supplier, he supplied the Baker Rifles for the Sharpes Rifle series. The website is now offline, but TOW and Canadian mob buy arms from this outfit. The stuff is a little rough, and am not to sure how safe, but it is cheap, they also produce wheel locks, match locks, english dog locks, most stuff made in Europe and England from the 16th cent to the late 19th .

cheers

I am not, and probably never will be, a fan of guns made in India. :shake: I have never seen one that was more than just a wall hanger. They look pretty good if you squint your eyes just right and are standing far enough back from them and will serve for reenacting but I have never seen one that I would take to a match in Friendship. But, the important thing is that if it makes you happy, it is serving its purpose. :hatsoff:

Just the opinion of a cantankerous and intransigent old fart. :haha:

The pistol has gone to the range again but before the cock geometry has been modified because the angle was not correct and flints were perpendicular to the frizzen. I have heated the cocks and bent them downwards.

I have started shooting at 8meters and then 15 meters and finally at 25 meters

The point of aim is different according to the left or right barrel. The locks now perform without any delay in ignition.

The last 26 balls are within the drawing ( left shot are circled with a square and right shots with a triangle)

22 shots out of 26 are within the paper at 25 meters !! That was really unexpected
