This gun means buisness...

It's a heavy double barrel percussion 16 bore holster pistol by Tipping & Lawden, London, 8" twist barrels and swivel ramrod, London proof marks, circa. 1850...

Looks a lot like a sawed off shotgun... :D :winking:

FitP,
that would be my thought also!! hellava defence gun
though!
snake-eyes :peace: :)

At one time before the revolvers took over, the dbl barrel pistols were very popular and widely used. You just never see them in the movies.

It loks like one that one of the manufacturers sold back in the 70's. I think they called it a Corsair. Would make a great close range personal defense gun. Maybe a ball in one side and shot in the other. There ya go Rat, your Bear and Grouse gun. ::

A howdah. Popular with officer's in Her Majesty's Army. It was useful as a backup when hunting with the Raji and a tiger tries to bite, or against Afghanis on the North West Frontier. I believe they used ball almost to the exclusion of shot.

Holy cow , Musketman , that pistol is sweeeeet ! I gotta have one , or two , maybe , one for each hand :: .

They acquired the name howdah pistol during the Civil War. An officer from Virginia fired one and promptly asked

"How dah HELL do you hold on to this thing?"

Lets suppose for a minute (hypothetically of course) that someone once upon a time cut back a Stevens 311 in 12 GA. lets also suppose that said gun was test fired at some targets of opportunity. I would imagine that said gun would recoil a huge amount and tend to want to rotate out of the shooters hand. So lets also suppose that any attempt to hit anything with it ultimately required a two-handed grip. lets also suppose that the gun worked best with heavy loads of BBs and that it was actually used once to dispatch a coyote in a trap. I'll bet that at 12 feet it really hit him hard and scared the manure out of the guy standing next to the shooter with all of the flame and noise.

Well, if this isn't a prime example of Gravedigging, I don't know what is.

OTOH, y'all have all seen this before, but I don't care.

Behold, the .73 (12ga) Howda. A recent creation of Roy, so that I may injure myself. :rotf:

To end this following omgbs post lets say ya was in south america some years back and wanted to break contact with some guys in the bush trying to AK you, and this buddy of mine had this old Mod 97 Wins 12g with a 9" barrel, held 2 in the mag,1 up and ready, you just held one hand on top and the trigger hand around a 1 1/2" wood stump to fire, and thats why Im still here today....hey its just a story.
