Howdy Gents”¦.
A couple of years ago, somebody on this board posted
A picture of a double barreled shotgun (cap lock) that
Had been cut down and finished into a pistol. It was an
Exceptionally Pretty weapon. Thing is, it was referred to
As a ???????.
Does anybody know what that name might be? In my
Memory, I seem to remember it a German sounding term.
BTW”¦.
It is good to be back.

That doesn't sound like the word I "sorta" remember,
but at my age...Hoodah***knows????
:^)
Thank "Q" just the same....As I remember it,
it was more of a term then a slang.

Wasn't quite "a couple of years ago"... more like about 4 months.

We had a discussion about Howdas and I had Roy build me one from some Navy Arms 12ga parts.

Search the forum for the Howda thread - but here are Pics of my gun.

I've shot it with patched .69rb and scavanged 12ga sabot slug - most powder I've used was 80gr - which is fairly repressive. 50 is doable.

Accuracy is minute of Barn Door at 25 feet - but then it was made to be the worlds biggest "belly-gun" - to be used at 10ft or less.

I'm going to try stacked .36 balls later some day.

Well that sure looks like what I was remembering.
The name don't ring a bell but the gun sure does.
Also Thanks to you Rebel and Russ T....and please
excuse a failing memory. Where does such a name
come from? Does anybody happen to know?
Iron Sights....That is a fine looking Weapon.
The reason I was curious was that I found an old
sawed off in an antique shop some time ago and
bought it for a good price. The pipes are either
twist steel, or Damascus and the hammers are junk
as is the wood, but there may be enough to build a project out of.

The Howdah pistol was not a hunting gun in the true sense of the word. "Howdah" is the Indian word for the wicker or wooden riding basket on the elephants' back from which the English hunters used to shoot tigers. The big bored pistols were a last ditch weapon in case Kitty-Kitty tried to hop aboard. Then it was big pistols and "repel boarders"!!! :rotf:

Some more inspirational readings and pics for ya.

Does anyone know of any books that have true stories of people actually using a howdah pistol for the purpose it was intended? I would like to read a true account of someone in the 19th century hunting tigers in India and using a howdah pistol to kill a tiger.

I want one, what did he charge you and any possibility of having one built?
:hatsoff:

Not to sound impudent, but you'd have to ask Roy (just PM him) both of those questions.

I don't feel comfortable quoting a Makers price. There are too many variables so "my" price is not likely to be "your" price. But in either case, in my experience with Roy it's a fair price for both parties.
