I've been trying to figure a way to secure such a sheath- maybe two holes in back with a rawhide thong?

Maybe an antler button - look at the brass stud on this CS Bowie's leather sheath.

(I've already re-handled the bowie & tossed the Kydex sheath)

On knife designs, we keep re-inventing the wheel. If you look at some of the old knives- very close. Mountain Man Antoine Clement is painted with a similar knife however the handle is segmented with groves- obviously to improve one's grip.

Black Dave:

One of the best blades I have seen in years! Love the sheath.

Is that puppy hollow ground?

Ever get tired of looking at it, PM and I can set it on top my gear box :hatsoff:

Pick up Flayderman's big book on the bowie knife; lots and lots of pictures of 19th century large/fighting knives of all kinds of sizes and shapes. This looks similar to some of those pictured there.
