I'll be using pyrodex most likely. Real black is near impossible to find here, while everyone stocks pyrodex that has gunpowder. I dont shoot enough nor have the money for a 25lb order. I used Pyrodex P in an 1858 pietta I had, and never had an issue. I'd shoot 4 cylinders and barrel was never all that dirty... thats 24 shots. Of course, the felt wads surely helped keep the barrel cleaner!

If I can find real black somewhere around me, I'll buy a few lbs for sure. If I can't, I have no issues using Pyrodex! I have about 3/4lb of P left, so its the first thing my GPR will see, once it is warm enough to shoot...

You can order as little as 5#. I got in with another fellow and we split it. Nothing against Pyrodex either. I shoot it myself sometimes. If we knew about where you are, someone might be able to tell you where you could get some.

Join a club or start a club. We buy from powder inc.
KIK costs members 14.00 a lb shuetzen 15.00 a lb.
KIK is very good powder!

You’re fooling yourself. Between gun purchases and NRA memberships you are already on every NSA data bank there is. Buying powder on line is insignificant.

That puts you on the list of potential candidates for Congress.

Woops. :slap: I just remembered. No politics.

If your GPR is a caplock, you can use any of the substitute powders in it. Use the equivalent of the 2f. I am not familiar enough with the substitutes to know which one that will be. If your GPR is a flintlock, the only way you can use any of the substitutes is in a duplex load. To do that, first load 10 grains of real black powder into your rifle and then follow that with a substitute load that you have reduced by 10 grain volume equivalent. The black powder will ignite the substitute powder. Substitutes will not work reliably in a flintlock. It's not a perfect plan but it will make the real black powder that you have last a lot longer. Of course, you will have to use a few grains of real black in your pan, too. Substitutes will not work there either.
