Hmmm...I just finally cast my first 100 lead balls about a week ago(.490) using a smiling fox bag mold (yes they do leave a slight seam mark). I just dropped them onto a piece of leather I had sitting next to the pot. Then I started cutting the sprues off and dropping them directly into the molten lead. That worked fine until I worked through all the cool ones and picked up one that I had just cast about a minute or two before. You know, those "just cast" balls are hot. :shocked2: :shocked2: :shocked2: Got nice blisters on both my index finger and thumb from that. Can't believe I wasn't wearing gloves.
Dropping them in water might alleviate that problem, but I've never seen lead explode from a drop of water, and I hope I never do. Guess I'll just wear gloves and pay more attention next time.
